We are urging river users in the North West to look out for flashing warning lights for their own safety as the Environment Agency monitors river levels to help protect communities from flooding.
Our Hydrometry & Telemetry team are often called out to measure river levels when the water is at its highest, enabling them to issue flood warnings to communities in danger.
However, recently they have spotted canoeists and other boat users putting themselves in unnecessary danger, ignoring flashing warning signs and coming close to heavy duty measuring equipment deployed in the water.
View our Flickr album ow.ly/rgkc0 that allows river users to compare online river level guides to actual photos of weirs to assess if it is safe to use the river.
