Understand that this hit the 1962 charts so hard and so fast (added to playlists of 150 radio stations in a single week),that Gordy Records had to scramble to get enough copies of the master and mother discs struck and sent to the pressing plants. The small Motown distribution office was open 24 hours over seven days satisfying the sudden, huge 45 and LP orders and taking care of their regional independent distributors .Radio DJs were advised by Motown to play back the song on air via cart tape and preserve their DJ 45 rpm copies from hard, twice-per-hour play in hot rotation One station wore out it's DJ copy in 5 days and had to run and buy the last retail copy available in the whole city...sales were THAT hot!.
