my goal is to eventually be able to understand these videos 😭😭 are these videos rated as upper intermediate or advanced? i can’t tell. i can hear lots of words, but still too fast for me. i have been watching dreaming spanish for about 40 hours now. maybe i’ll come back here in another 110 hours of dreaming spanish and see how it goes haha. this channel seems really interesting and great for comprehensible input when i finally get to this listening level. i can’t wait!! 🎉🎉

That's cool I started with Dreaming Spanish too, I would say after 350-400 hours I came across this podcast and could understand 80% I fell in love with this podcast and listened to episodes everyday. It's now my favorite Spanish podcast. I listen to others but I always, always come back to how to Spanish. Stick with it , the moment you start understanding is such an reward

Do not give up! I've got 2 years of learning Spanish by my own behind the belt. I understood like 95% of this one at the first time. They've got easier and harder videos. Sometimes I get like 70%. What I can recommend is Spanish with Paul. Find him on YT. Do the free mini course. If it clicks, buy the course. It helped me immensely to get my head around in Spanish grammar, without actually cramming it. Cheers!

As each video starts, I go into the settings and change playback speed to 0.75x and turn on Spanish captions. That helps a lot.

One thing I'm having trouble with is hearing an "a" (to) before a word that starts with "a" - especially when someone is talking fast. Of course if you're a native speaker you know that the "a" is there.

Pero se escribe ny es igual que ñ. Por ejemplo conejito en hungaro es nyuszi que se pronuncia ñusi. Muchas gracias pot tus esfuerzos! Kolos

This is going to sound mean but I think there are people who are totally deaf to their own accent. I agree that accent is not everything and it should never hold you back from speaking. But, there are some terrible, terrible gringo accents out there that sound like nails on a chalk board to me.

There are people I know who have been living in Mexico for decades whose Spanish makes me cringe. But part of the reason, is that their teachers have never corrected them. Not wanting to hurt their feelings? It's happened to me with multiple teachers. As a Spanish-fluent friend said: First, learn the sounds of the alphabet. Oh, okay... 😞

Every language has its phonetical rules. In your native language you have some not present in the other (you learn). And yes, you are death to them. Your brain doesn't hear when you break them, cos it's not aware of their presence. For instance in Polish we have a very powerful one, which is called final devoicing. You don't have it in English. We tend to pronounce every ending with a devoiced consonant. The pairs are: p and b, k and g... and so on Try it. The only difference is that for b and g you use your vocal cords. The rest stays completely the same. This way you get one of Polish accent traits. We sound like shssss shsss all the time. We say dock instead of dog. Bick instead of big. And even -ink instead of -ing in every word that ends so. Not many ppl is aware of breaking these rules, unless they're made aware of it.

En cada otro caso el énfasis queda en la sílaba final. Como en las palabras "final," y "hablar" y "pared."

Ventajas de los acentos: Mi antiguo gerente me dijo una vez que un "acento leve" en realidad hace que las personas escuchen un poco más de cerca. Tienen que 'inclinarse' y prestar un poco más de atención. Funciona por teléfono también. Otra ventaja es que un acento suena un poco 'exótico' y eso puede resultar atractivo para algunos... Ya sabes a lo que me refiero.

He notado en mis clases de español aquí en Canadá que algunos de mis compañeros hablan español con un acento muy inglés. No pronuncian la "rr”correctamente, vocalizan la "h" en vez de dejarla muda. Me pregunto si aprendieron primero leyendo libros en vez de escuchando y hablando. Creo que es muy importante tener un instructor para corregir estos errores e importante no leer y escribir antes de aprender a escuchar y hablar. ¿Qué opinan ustedes ?

Ana ha tocado al grano el problema para extranjeros aprender español. No tenemos un hogar en un lugar específico de Latinoamérica. Por eso, recibimos instrucciones desde muchas influencias si tener un quilla a guiarnos. Oímos lecciones de España, Argentina, Mexico, República Dominicana, etc. y no tenemos ancla en ningún lugar para adquirir costumbres y modales oriundos. Hablando del acentos, nunca voy a dejar tener el acento gringo que tengo. Pero, he escuchado mujeres hablar, sin saber de mi presencia, y ellos pensaban que el acento gringo fue sexi, con tal de que los hombres gringos hablan bien, con oraciones bien formadas. Es como Ricardo Montelban, Charro y Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ellos nunca pudieron dejar de tener acentos pero los acentos son sexi! ¿Ustedes están de acuerdo?

Hola~ soy de tier guacamole y te recomiendo que elijas lo que está disponible acordando a tu tiempo libre, tus metas, y su dinero. Asisito a casi cada reunión y utilizo las transcripciones y guías, pero uso la llamadita más para chequear cositas de gramática y preguntitas. En mi opinión, estoy aprendiendo muy casualmente pero todavía con progreso visible y me encanta. 🥰 Ellos sugieren LenguaTalk también porque puedes hablar más profundo con nativos y tener ayuda específica a ti mismo y a tu horario.
