Good reminder to double-check the basic info for the key blanks. We all hold our breath when we copy a key for a customer without the lock present to verify that it works. Great video, PJ! #AccessLockKeyLLC #HaulinBrass #LockBoss

I was code cutting LFIC keys the other day with my handy pak-a-punch and for had both the control and operation codes out. I kept mixing up the number for the key I was making and went through three keys not working at all until I realized what I was doing. So much for being a #Lockboss

I had this issue when one of the program heads at the college came to me asking for duplicate sets made for their new storage container locks. I didn't catch the problem until I went to try the keys on the lock. I had to grind down both sides of the bow on twelve keys. So far, no complaints.

Jason from SE lock and Key had an other interesting video about key blanks. The angle of the tip might not be perfectly the same, so he had a mailbox key with a no cut on the last position towards the tip, and as the blank had a different tip angle, that key copy could not lift the wafer enough to operate the lock.

I’ve run into the millings being too short on an automotive key where I substituted a smaller head key so it would go in a magnetic box. I, like you, checked the cuts and it was dead on…It took a minute or two for me to see the forest in the trees so to speak and realize it was not stopping on the tip. #LockBoss

Where there's a cylinder plate guard on a door this can render some keys to be more difficult to use. High security brands always make their blanks more elongated to avoid this issue, and so do car keys in general.

I hate grinding key's but there is times where it has to be done. however as much as I like to stand behind every key I cut. if I have to go grinding on it without the lock. I will not guarantee that key. good stuff as usual.

There's a series of rather nice Stanley 24/7 series padlocks that use a modified version of the SC-4 key that lacks the back shoulder so that the key will fit deeper, past the anti-drill plate. Ilco makes a special 1145AST (ST4) blank but a #LockBoss can grind down a standard SC4 (1145A) or, if you repin the lock to use only 5 pins, SC-1.
