Also worth saying, when you have to start turning work away because of not having a studio, its time. You've cemented my decision. Thanks for making this Scott ;)

My studios has been parts of my home. In the first place I and my wife lived in a former grocery store. We lived upstairs and the studio, which I shared with another photographer in the village, was downstairs in the shop. For certail occations we couuld easily change the stodio to a simple photo gallery or a place for study Now I have something that prabably was a garage when cars were smaller. It is located next to our house just across the garden. Neither of my studios has been optimal but they have been in spaces we alraady were paying for. I may go for something larger or at a better address, some time if I can afford, but it's no hurry.

I used to have an office, well multiple different ones over the years, but I just paid the deposit on a shooting studio. I'm so excited, its just a big warehouse space but it's going to be a better investment than the latest camera (and about the same price!!)

Hey Scott, What's your opinion on sharing the studio space with a couple other photographers? We can split the cost of the rent, as well as pool our gear together to have more tools at our disposal.

I did this when starting out, but I wouldn't recommend it, unless you all have the exact same work ethic.

Hmmmm interesting - I've been shooting for 10+ years now but I've been traveling the world for 4, so when I settle in October in ireland I've loads of plans. A studio has always been my dream. Do you reckon it's worth it for portraits as a start then work towards renting it out? Love this channel as well, I've been doing the restaurant and social media right of passage you talked about in another video for a few years now. 🤟

oh nice, where have you been on your travels? Yeah I didnt rent my space out for the first year as it was only just about good enough for me to work in.

How much percentage for building food photography studio beetween all photo gears vs pro kitchen gears? Becausw stove oven can cost you more than 1.000 pound right? 🙃🙂
@TinHouseStudioUK4 жыл бұрын
I reckon it is about 20% of the cost of my gear. But I don't have a particularly fancy kitchen right now.

I photograph mostly portraits in studio, but unless you have a massive space full length portraits are out of the question. And to get a space large enough to shoot full length portraits, and have the place tidied up in a way that it is useful, would literally cost hundreds of thousands here!

Try i slightly shorter lens, say 50 mm on flull frame, but try to keep the distance about the same as the telephoto headshots.

Anyone US based have good tips for finding studio space available for monthly rental? I’ve used things like Peerspace to rent for the day or by hourly rate, but it’s tough to find space that I can lease for six months.

Vince are you in Houston, TX? If so I think there's a place you might be able to use.

I think, that instead of renting a place it should be better to buy it.
@TinHouseStudioUK4 жыл бұрын
yeah sometimes it can be, it depends on your goal on the investment and where in the world you live.
