I’ve never bought the extended warranty on my bikes because like you I normally trade every 2-3 years. Plus, correct me if I’m wrong but when you buy an extended warranty from Harley the first two years are part of the extended warranty, i.e., if you buy a 3 year extended warranty in actuality you are only getting one extra year. It’s not the original 2 years plus 3 more years for a total of 5 years. Or at least that’s what I was told by a friend who was a Sales Manager at a Harley store in Maryland. When I traded for my current bike I had a Service Rep at my dealership take me aside and advise me not to buy the extended warranty at that time. He advised me to wait until about a month before the original warranty expired and then come back to the dealer and buy the extended warranty then. By doing so I would get closer to a 5 year warranty. Note: I think because we’re both retired law enforcement he was looking out for a brother.😊 So if I still have this bike before the warranty expires I’ll buy the extended warranty then. Good luck with your Stage 2. I had that done to my current bike and have been extremely happy with it.

I never got too concerned over not having warranty(maybe I should have been), as I felt I was upgrading components to better support the health and longevity of my bike. But I like the idea of a warranty that covers all those upgrades not named Harley Davidson. Just more peace of mind when out traveling for days on end.

@@TyFromTennessee yeah that took care of it. The crazy thing is they didn’t know about that particular service bulletin. I ended up sending it to them. The H-D dealer extended warranty service plan is worth it if you utilize every aspect of it. I got a plan for the first 20,000 miles. Included pick up and return. I used every bit of it. I had one recall (hydraulic clutch seal) and I had a bad compensator (fifty bucks from me in that warranty fix). I also got the tire replacement warranty. That I definitely came out ahead in. Twice rear nail in the tire replaced (fifty Bucks from me each time) and a front fire defect replacement (another fifty bucks for me). My point, the service warranty to me is worth it if you utilize everything that comes with it. The tire warranty for me is a must. Just do the math and weight it out. Now I’m a long time owner so I guess if I was trading bikes often then beside the tire warranty a service warranty doesn’t seem cost effective. On another note, wasn’t there some kind of litigation in court with Harley on having to use Harley parts to keep a warranty in force?
@TyFromTennessee5 ай бұрын
I'm glad to see that the warranty has worked out well for you. I picked up a nail once and you're right, it was worth every penny. For someone like myself it just makes sense to pay up for security and hope that nothing goes wrong. I appreciate your time today and thank you very much for watching!

Good info, now buying a Harley is just as costly as the other bikes, what one does to his bike after the purchase is a different matter. Every time I buy a bike what do I tell myself, nothing will be done to this machine, who am I kidding, just did a cam swap on my triglide and the roadglide well there’s two years of retirement invested in her. The lifestyle is expensive, but that’s what I do. Can’t wait to hear about the ST upgrade.

Now, if you buy a used Harley, like both me and husband, I strongly advise to get an extended warranty. It has more than paid for itself with our trikes. Reverse motors are stupid expensive, and my husband just had his second replacement put in. I lost my cruise control and had to get a new left side controller. Very very glad we have the warranty.

I got one because i knew i was keeping my bike til the end for me. So for me I went ahead and got the extended warranty for my bike to last at least until its paid off. The last warranty covered item 3rd set of front bearings the cost and coverage for me has now paid for itself and at the cost of just 50 bucks per issue covered is way better than the normal cost of work. I will say chrome heat shields aren't covered being mine just broke apart monday actually lol. I found out when I swung by MCHD just to check and see if it was covered or not and to see if they may know why it would've done what it did being it seemed weird. So yeah extended warranty if you plan on paying and keeping a bike I recommend for sure especially if you are dealing with a good dealership as well. So far the list of things replaced on the extended warranty is a bit lengthy for my bike. take care and stay safe

No, a hotdog is NOT a sandwich. Extended warranty is a good idea on new tech and new platforms, like my Pan America Special. In your case, screwing around with a stage II and especially with third-party parts, you better find some coverage out there. Normally, I don't go with extended warranties. If your bike is going to have issues, you're going to know in the first two years... my Pan America is going to be fit as a fiddle for years to come. In your case, I would not have opted for stage II... (diminishing returns, too expensive for what it is, and you have to find protection) I believe in leaving a bike stock as per the power train. No ext war except for new tech or new platform. Oh, and I'm an IT guy too, but, I can do my own work... but, I never do! I leave it to the tech-sperts! 😮 marcus

White Lightning delivered it via trailer to my garage in a torrential downpour the day before I left. Can't wait to get home and record that first ride experience. Have a great week Marcus!

Warranties are trash and I'll explain why. (By the way I used to work at a dealership) From my experience there's just too much input a dealer can have on what went wrong and why it went wrong. Many and I mean many warranty claims get looked over with a fine tooth comb. If there's a way they can deny it, trust me they will. Examples being "neglect and abuse" they will try and say that every time. Plus why would you prepay and expect something to go wrong on your bike. Save the $2k and put it aside in an account. If something goes wrong then pull from that fund. If not your $2k richer. Just my 2 cents
