Yeah I never liked the concept of taking something then turny into a edgy/scary thing, turning something edgy for the sake of being edgy doesn't really age well in long term. Sure it's cool "Hey we turn this beloved show into a realistic bloody fan film", thinking about it in a more darker tone but that defeats the whole purpose of anything fiction, the whole point is to suspend your belief and to peer into these shows to what it's like.

I respect the work that went into it. You can't say it wasn't taken seriously, which is honestly more than can be said for the canon entries at times. And I understand the appeal of taking Power Rangers and going balls-to-the-wall with it. But on principle, in the larger scope of Power Rangers, I find it... misguided. The entire point of Power Rangers is a team of idealistic heroes. Edgy reboots, including but _far_ from limited to Power/Rangers, have this inherent uphill battle in concept to prove that edge is better than no edge, and I don't completely buy into that. It's almost like people who want edgy Power Rangers don't really understand or respect what Power Rangers already is / what it (admittedly imperfectly) tried to be. I still revisit Power Rangers periodically to this day, well into my 30's, because of its staunch optimism and moral fortitude in contrast to a real world clearly running a deficit of both. I respect Power Rangers as it was on a deeper level now than I ever did, ever _could,_ as a kid. If you ask me, I don't want Power Rangers to be darker. I want it to be a _light_ in the dark. Which isn't to say that Power Rangers can't be mature. If you want _mature_ Power Rangers, I would say Time Force is the apex of that line of thinking. Romance. Day jobs. Prejudice. Classism. PMCs. Dangerous butterfly effects. A ranger literally dies in the line of duty in Episode 1. And yet it's still unmistakably Power Rangers in theme and motif. You can _have_ mature themes without completely defying the intended point of the original IP. In fact, when you make your own IP, all bets are off and you get to set all the limits to your precise taste. But resetting the limits in something _somebody else_ made? Speaking from my own days of writing fanfiction (notably Chaos Card Captor Sakura; let a title like _that_ sink in...), that's a _lot_ of extra effort. At that point, you'd probably be more creatively satisfied making your own thing from scratch. In fact, that's exactly what I did, and why I went from fanfiction to original works. Yeah, I get the temptation for edge. I've been there. But don't let that blind you to the fact that some stories are the way they are for a reason. I'm not saying to _never_ push the envelope. I'm saying don't tear down the fence without understanding why the fence is there.

That the Sentai are not members of a futuristic intergalactic army, but are stablehands instead is just way better.

To start off, let me say that you are still someone I appreciate and I love your content and as far as saying we should try to explore other ways to do Power Rangers, that is a statement I strongly aggree with. It made me very uncomfortable, the story was truly messy, it felt rushed, they went out of their way to pick on things that just weren't cool and the story reeks of shock value. However I do believe that at the very least it is worth remembering if for no other reason than it got the show some good attention at a time when it was struggling. Also yes I love Rocky. He's one of my favorite red rangers. Totally a character I like a lot but this portrayal was not for me. Again i want to praise the fact that this fan film got people thinking more about Power Rangers and I want to praise that it was made by a person who likes the franchise a lot but otherwise not truly my thing. Nevertheless this parody (or not) falls under the trap of every single "mature version of a r word kids show" as the edgies call them and is the fact that they just add gore, death, sex and guns......and that's it, there's no nuance, no commentary, nothing thst remotely resembles the original work and that's not how a deconstruction should be, this is just a generic dark story with power rangers slapped on it.

This is a problem I’ve seen a lot that needs to stop. 80’s kids are the Peter Pan generation, they never really grow up. We need to let current kids have their franchises too, not all of it needs to “grow up with us.” Not every kids show needs to be made with an adult in mind. It’d be nice, but it’s not a prerequisite.

This fan movie was the “DCEU” for the Power Rangers universe. A music director who failed to become a film director paired with a producer that works on bootleg movies because he can’t afford the actual rights, to make a basic version of a beloved franchise in hope this project would get him out of directors jail (after flopping hard with ‘Torque’) and be able to direct an official project. Clearly they didn’t understand what the characters are about or even what makes them appealing, I’m hope to reach their selfish goals.

Este I would love to hear your thoughts on my theory My theory is that the way tommy Oliver got his master morpher is from his encounter with his past rangers in the Dino thunder episode fighting spirits and maybe after the events since he knew the powers were still within him he decided to go to Billy and make the master morpher Would love to hear your thoughts on it

Tbh, @Este, I REALLY Disliked this movie. Not because of its darker tone mind you (PR Unworthy shows you can do a darker take of MMPR WITHOUT losing the essence of the characters), but because this Fan Film felt like, to me, it was made by people who despise the PRs except for maybe Tommy. Admittedly, Rocky's one of my favourite PRs, and I HATED how he was portrayed in this. But that's just me.

Have you seen the Zordon of Eltar fan film? There was also a companion short, Teenagers with Attitude, as well as an aborted sequel to TwA.

I thought it was pretty good tho my only complaint is that we don’t get to see more of the suits or there iconic weapons like how much cooler would that Zach scene would’ve been if he was chopping people left and right with the power axe then blew a hole into someone’s head way cooler then gun and knife

I don’t think it’s too dark or adult, bc there are ways to handle it in a mature way. I just felt it was too tryhard to be adult and serious but came off as shallow, not even as a parody or anything like that. Honestly I preferred fanfilms like Teenagers with Attitude bc it felt mature but respectful of the franchise and the characters as a whole.
