I hope you & your family have a Wonderful Christmas plus Happy & Safe New Year 🎄🎁🎁🎁🎁🎁🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🦘🛷🤶🍹🍺🎅🏖

Did you catch that the guitar break follows a traditional melody of wedding bells? It's quite a subliminal hook. The use of the small squeezebox invokes a wistful feeling, rather like an ocarina or melodica played by a child. And, oh my, yes, beyond her considerable vocal skills she is greatly gifted with a remarkable timbre.

This song was actually written and recorded while the band was trying to get out of a previous record deal. Their producer secretly paid for a studio using a credit card to record the album while they negotiated out of their contract. The producer even formed a record label just for them after they were free from their contract. It wasn't the label or the producer who was hesitant of this song being included on the album. It was the band themselves.

It made the made you were heading into lighter brighter and better. I love hearing it now days as it reminds me of my soulmate and the fun we used to have back then when I had life all around me. The joy of living was just being in the day with her. I miss her.

Leigh Nash did a couple of duets with Marc Martel, who did the vocals for the Bohemian Rhapsody film. One of their duets was Dreams (Cranberries), a tribute to Dolores O'Riordan. The other was a Christmas song, Welcome to our World. Marc is also an incredible talent that doesn't get all the attention he should. He does almost all the Queen songs (sung with a few tribute bands, in particular Roger Taylor's official tribute band), tons of Christmas music, other covers and his own original songs.

SNTR co-founder, Matt Slocum wrote this song as a tribute to his wife. It was almost immediate that they found out that this song needed to be sung by a female. What really makes this song work is the 12-string guitar (Matt) and that Paris sidewalk cafe accordion sound. Leigh Nash has limited depth and range but she does pick songs that are well within her range. Another component of this production is that Leigh does her own backing vocals with an echo-like effect. When she hits the bridge, she stretches out the word "oh" as a hook to set up the bridge lyrics. The lyrics are so descriptive that a blind man could listen to this song and visualize everything that is going on: Oh, kiss me, beneath the milky twilight Lead me out on the moonlit floor Lift your open hand Strike up the band and make the fireflies dance Silver moon's sparkling So kiss me Beth, it was nice to see your visual reaction to this song.

Nice reaction, Beth. Fun fact: Lead singer Leigh Nash was actually offering vocal lessons / coaching for a while there (mid-2000's?) 😊 I first saw them play live in Kansas City - March / April '99 - right when this song was rocketing to the top of the charts. So of course when they played it, the place went bananas! It felt like we were the center of the universe. The gig was in the basement of an old stone church, and Sixpence blew the roof off later when the band took over and jammed hard to some of their older, less "cute" material. (if you know, you know) Cheers!

Thank you so much for taking a second to dive into the band origin. I was first introduced to Sixpence when they were doing Christian music. While they did gain some attention, I felt they were still very underrated. They had incredibly poetic and thought provoking lyrics, incredible sound, solid vocals from Leigh Nash, and impressive instrumentation. I got to see them live once and it was one of the best concerts I ever attended. Their early days have a bit of an alternative edge, but you still hear it occasionally in some of their later stuff despite their turn towards a more pop sound. If you want a surprising dive, check out their album This Beautiful Mess and hit tracks like Angeltread, Within a Room Somewhere, and Love, Salvation, and the Fear of Death and you'll see what I mean.
