I've found myself in a learning slump of late, until I stumbled upon this. Of all the instructors trying to teach 'how to paint loose', you've given me a much much better place to start with confidence. Now, excuse me while I look through some old photos of Acacia trees and get to painting.

Now that's how I want to paint - simple, quick, loose & lush - with fab results! Stunning work sir. Thank you!

Wonderful. The richness, the granulation. Just mix paint on the paper and use the brush handle for gestural marks. So much to take away here. Thank you. Greetings from Melbourne Australia.

Great, I have recently been painting trees like this, as a beginner -ish, it’s great practice and often get good results with limited skills. Satisfying.

I loved this painting and learned a lot from watching this. I'm trying to learn proper layering at the moment and tend to start too dark when I do so I have nowhere to go. I love this technique and see no need to layer at all. I look forward to trying this soon. Thank you for a great video.

Why have I NEVER thought to use the back of the brush to drag color out?? I'm struggling over here with a liner brush and a light touch, but the back of the brush looked almost effortless! Can't wait to try this technique.

Stunning! Love the granulation. I like splattering with water to make interesting textures. Agree Shirley T is brilliant.

I attended a workshop of a famous Florida watercolor artist. She said she only works on full sheets of 300lb Arches paper, and uses watercolor paint the consistency of *toothpaste.* Glad she commands a lot of money for her paintings because they must cost a small fortune to produce.

toothpaste consistency in watercolor??? Yeah, either charge a fortune for it or switch to oil paints lol. wow!

I was grateful you reminded me of using a stick to draw. I keep one close by. I’m more comfortable using a stick than the brush end. I’m afraid of dripping paint or water. Your sketch is beautiful. And inspiring.
