If you can start it with a wire directly from the starter motor the problem isn't in the starter motor

I locked my keys in my old Lincoln Town Car. Battery was dead so I couldn't use the key pad. I borrowed a jumper pack and a jack and connected the jumper to the positive on the started and grounded it. I was able to use the keypad. The mechanic at the station I borrowed the stuff from thought it was a very creative solution.

@@tim211100 Google, "1FZ starter motor plunger contacts" and you'll see how these work. The coil in the solenoid energizes, throwing out the bendix gear, but if the contacts are worn, the starter itself, will not spin. They're not like older starters, that throw the gear upon rotation, the plunger pushes the gear and makes the contact, to power the starter motor. Once dirt gets in, the contact no longer rotates through contact with the bendix gear and the contact disc, wears out in the two spots, it's constantly using. It's a common problem with these starter motors, used in Landcruisers, that actually see offroad use. Muddy water gets in then dries up, leaving the mud/dust behind.
