That trick with the stones makes a lot of sense. If the cottage is going to be drawn on a smaller canvas, having more subtlety on the bricks is going to be required. In the first drawing of the cottage, the bricks and roof tiles would look HUGE and unrealistic.

Thanks. I’ve just released a video on drawing bricks if you’re interested in more detail about my thinking with drawing brick walls, and some of the issues we need to consider. It’s a great example of the larger problem of drawing detail. 😀

@Stephen Travers Art when drawing smaller structures we gotta be real subtle about the details we add. Ill give your tutorial a look sir. Thank you

You seem to understand it all well. Just need some practice drawing it. 😀

Thank you for posting this video. It is so helpful to have you explain the basic concepts behind the good and the bad of three dimension line drawing. The side by side examples are excellent.

Can you show more of how you drew those bricks and that foliage near the bricks around 17:12 ? I wanto to do that for an old bridge, but my foliage and bricks don't like near as nice! What motions are you using? Is that a 0.5 fineliner?

I just put out a video on drawing bricks, and I have a playlist on drawing trees and foliage you might find helpful. I’m not certain of the pen used when I drew that, but it looks like 0.5. If not it would be 0.3. 😀

Amazing! so you can recommend a book that teaches building and landscape drawing following this style ? 😃
@stephentraversart Жыл бұрын
Thanks. I’ve never used them, so I’m afraid I can’t recommend any. Though I did find Drawing from the Right Side of the Brain really interesting about 30 years ago and could recommend it. 😀

Sure, COPIC Multiliner fine liner, this one I think is the 0.5mm.
