I've done this since we got our tekapo a couple years ago & certainly helps having a lovely cushioned base plus heat saving. We also set our up in our summer house to also retain the heat & means we can use it all year round.

I have my first lay z spa being delivered today and typically for me I’ve been doing a lot of research, I was thinking about that very same foam matting to go underneath to help insulate it but the therma wrap is a brilliant idea, nice to know I’m on the right track. Thanks!

That thermalwrap stuff only has the advertised R value when it is installed in a very specific way that traps air in a cavity. The material itself is just a radiant barrier with very little R value of its own. In this application, there is no trapped air and you would have been better off just applying another layer of the flooring instead of the foil.
@-Dwight-Schrute
@-Dwight-Schrute 3 ай бұрын
The foil has air pockets, like bubble wrap, inside the 2 layers of foil. I think this would definitely have some insulative value.

Afternoon, new subscriber and have watched all of the hot tub videos after coming across your guide to chemicals first up. Love them all. They have been really helpful in setting ours up. Obviously not the greatest time to set up with electric costs etc but have matched your insulation on the floor and got a thermal cover. We are considering packing away Nov/March but whilst we are using it we are looking at the best way of saving electric. Does it make more sense to keep the temp high and then just boost a little the day you want or would it make more sense to let the heat run down and then boost it for a full day when you want to use it? Thinking of using say Wed/Fri/Sat/Sun... Just wondered what you thought would be the best way to be economical? Thanks for all of the videos and good luck with your channel...
@AbouttheHouse0
@AbouttheHouse0 2 жыл бұрын
If you're using it several times a week, it is defo more economical to run it at about 2-3c below the temp you use it at and then boost it for a couple of hours each use.
@LOVE2RC
@LOVE2RC Жыл бұрын
You could just buy the newer version of lay z spa it's bigger takes less air cos it's thiner but has thick insulation on the bottom and sides. and all so you could buy a big solor panel battery's and an inverter and run the hot tub from that iv had mine set up for just over a year now and still working fine i haven't run the heat and the bubbles at the same time what i do is let it heat up over night then turn the heater off in the morning it stays hot all day so no point keeping the heater running it used to cost a fortune to run.

Can you please do a video on how to use the timer if it saves more on electricity cost this way? I mean how long is best for the timer per day, if to let the temperature drop and re heat with a timer ect😊At the moment I keep it on 24 hours a day, so it just heats back up ever so often when the set temp drops.. I though this was the best way cost wise? Thank you
@AbouttheHouse0
@AbouttheHouse0 2 жыл бұрын
You're doing the right thing. better to keep it warm than go cold, warm up, go cold, warm up etc etc If you've got economy 7, then use the timer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpXIiYx8i51_nKc

Just got my hot tub yesterday, really useful videos! One thing, do I need to protect any part of the hot tub or wire from the rain? And how would you recommend doing that? Thanks!
@AbouttheHouse0
@AbouttheHouse0 2 жыл бұрын
No need to protect from the rain. It's all IP67 rated. Obviously it needs to be fully waterproof where it's plugged in though, something like this where you can close the lid over the plug and this one comes with the cable gland you need too amzn.to/3Ouv8UI. Or if you're not au'fey with wiring it in, something like this that is pre-wired like an extension lead amzn.to/3zsWiqA.

Hi, great channel. We have a saluspa honolulu. worked great for 3 months. Now it is leaking air out of the 3 connectors inside the tub...the filter assembly. the chemical dispenser, and the top one which just had air holes in it. we try to fill itub back up with ait and air leaks out of all 3??? frustrated as it is new and we take good care. There are no holes in and outer walls..just leaking air out of three attachments in the tub

First of all I must say I think your videos are great!!! I have been watching the hot tub videos since you started posting them. We have a St Mortiz like yourself and I'm putting it up for the summer holidays and I'm looking to make it more efficient. When you put the flooring down did you cut it to size of the hot tub? If so I have the same size tiles 600x600 did you just take the centre point of the tiles in a 4x4 square and cut a circle?
@AbouttheHouse0

Yes, basically, but you'll need 3 1/2 x3 1/2 squares for a Moritz.

If the water heats up to 40 degrees, leave the heater on all the time? Should you turn it on for several hours every day?
@AbouttheHouse0

Assuming you have a single rate tarriff, leave it on full time, but maybe turn the set temp down by 4-5 degrees C between uses (and back up 2-3 hours before use). AND insulate the tub kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGWYnnZud6ypeK8 and kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHa6oX17rtKdfq8

I have just re-purchased the 2022 Lay-z-spa and am really wanting to keep my bill down, so far with the current heat in the uk - I haven’t needed to heat the tub, but I am filtering it 24:7 I read that you only need to filter 8 hours a day ? So what is the best time to do that ? Overnight? And do you need to have it filtering for the chem clean to do it’s job? I’m currently using tub twice a day at the moment. Back problems 😢 Any advice would be welcomed. Your channel has been a god send ! Especially the over winter storage!! Do not want to return to a moldy tub 😢

Hi Stephanie, you should run the circulation pump for 4 hours in every 12 hour period (at least) and yes, you need to have the circulation running for tablets to 'do their thing'. My suggestion is to run the circulation when you are in it the first time each day and then leave it on until you have finished the second tubbing. Leave it off overnight. Unfortunately there is no way to have the circulation controlled by timer. See how that goes, as long as the water stays clean and clear, all is good. Do let us know how you get on.
