@@dr.x121 Which is why, with kids, I always went with a breeder instead of getting a rescue. My coworker does not have kids so she rescues Dobies. She would admit to it being more challenging at times. Just have to know your dogs limitations and work with it knowing that you may have to make adjustments. My coworker adores her dogs and will only get rescues. I commend her for that.

I own a half and half Doberman, I find him to be a definite Velcro dog. He's large, but extremely active. He will entertain himself though, I am not needed for exercise, however his favorite is playing fetch in the lake... He will chase a motorboat until the battery dies. I never have to guess if there's someone or something lurking. He is very appreciative of new toys or treats, he shows it by bringing me a gift of some kind (every time, it's weird). He is very strong willed, but I've learned to listen, he is usually trying to show me something important. He is very rarely adamant about food or treats. Upon command he will chase away a pesky cat and turn on a dime when called. Excellent with children, but will mangle a rat in a monsoon if given the chance. His maturity is leveling out now, he just passed two years of age in March. He mainly stays on the back porch all day and never leaves... He got out once and all he did was poop and came back (I love Ring cameras)... No gate, no owner, a thousand ducks and I walked in to find him waiting patiently as usual!

I own a 50% 50% American European Doberman. She is highly intelligent, perhaps the most intelligent Doberman I've owned. Highly attuned to my emotions. Extremely affectionate. But she has traits that clearly show her European side such as being very wary and suspicious of people, especially those who enter the home. She is highly curious, but always on guard. She loves to play and did not mature until age 3. She truly is a mix of the two subspecies, European and American. I think it's the best of both worlds. Your review was relatively accurate and hope breeders will continue to mix the two together, because in my estimation it produces a superior Doberman. They are truly super breeds! Thank you for this most excellent KZbin clip.

Thank you for this video! We just recently got our first doberman, make that 2. Litter mates and both boys. They are half and half with American mom and European dad. We love them so much, but it's obvious they will require a lot of my time. Especially with two of them. I was raised with dobermans, but this is my first time owning myself. They have two completely different personalities, so this experience will be quite interesting. Right now they are 3 months old with newly cropped ears. Keeping their ears safe has been very difficult as they want to play and chew on them. Separating them is nearly impossible. We couldn't get through the night with them in kennels due to the screaming they did, so I've done my best keeping their ears safe. We are truly excited for this journey with our new pups.

👋 Hey! My Doberman, Luna Red is a truly smart dog at 10 weeks. Potty trained and crate trained at 9 weeks. Currently knows basic commands as sit, stay, come, down, lie down, paw, up, kisses and go. She loves giving attention to those she knows. Alert, very assertive and attentive. Great with kids. Awesome TC or back seat rider. Very kind yet very physical when need be. Plays hard and trains hard. Likes to venture beyond our Velcro. But ensures me by always keeping her eye on me. Protective instincts are surely impressive. Kind to other dogs and cats. Luna red is going to be an all around dog. A kind of dog anyone would be happy to have.

Thank you Janet, I'm really glad you enjoyed it! They seem like pretty great dogs to me, but (I know you know this) individual genetics just plays such a big role... even more so probably than if they are half and half or full, etc. It's hard to get so super-specific on their personality traits because eventually, you get down to such small differences that individual genetics makes it so murky.

My 1/2 and 1/2 was the best Doberman I have had (Had 5). He just died from Dilated Cardiomyopathy 1 1/2 months ago at 7 years 4 months. I AM HEARTBROKEN AND STILL CRY nightly as a 55 year old man from this. It was so unexpected. He was exactly like your survey except after 1 1/2 years old his energy levels subsided. He trained VERY VERY easily but I used the commanding voice. As a puppy he had 2 poos in the house (no pee) and he was potty trained. He chewed my wallet one time and attempted my new one but that was the only distruction of my personal property. He did tear up his bed twice BUT NEVER ANYTHING ELSE. He never went into a room he was not introduced to even with open doors. He never ATTEMPTED to sit on furniture. Being from NC I have great furniture so I always bonded with my puppies on the floor (as opposed to sitting and holding a pup on the sofa). He was very sensitive to storms and would go to his bed a sleep EVERY TIME. However at 7 months he pulled on my shirt and tried to pull me. I was ticked. He ran to the walk in pantry back and forth. Two minutes later the tornado sirens went off and we lived 45 minutes from the site of the F5 Joplin Missouri tornado ( but this was not that one). Zeb also would leave his bed and lay under the interior door frames during HORRIBLE bad weather. I never taught him that. He woke me up by pounding both paws on my chest after falling asleep with ear buds in when my mother with ALS was choking and needed medicine as well as alerting me that my 85 year old Dad fell in the garage one night in 22 degree weather. I NEVER LET HIM OFF LEASH IN PUBLIC BECAUSE I DID NOT TRUST HIM. He always checked on me but was interested in EVERYTHING ELSE as well as me. THAT IS ONE AMAZING BABY! Your friends will let you down, your family and kids will let you down at some point possibly, BUT NEVER YOUR DOBERMAN! Being involved with the breed for over 35 years now, your information is ALWAYS spot on 100%.

both my dobies had german blood flowing through their veins. when my wife and i were with them both of them loved people when people walked in the house.. but it was a different story when they were in the house alone or when a stranger walks by...they didnt like fireworks.... they were always around people.. they had no problems with other animals.. another great job DP..

My favorite doberman mix so far was my rescue. She was coonhound and doberman. Just the right amount of chill and so cute with a long tail that curled to her back.

My 1st Dobie 100% Euro (got 8 wks from larger northeast kennel breeder ). My new Dobie is 75% Euro and 25% usa. (Also got 8 weeks. Small breeder in house pups northeast, extra $500 ). I quick get 2nd dobie because of 1st dobie -- the best dog ever owned/knew. My kid dog good pit mix mutt. Uncle had good german shepherd. I rate both my dobes next level better all around dogs. No regrets get 2nd dobie. Between both -- 1st pure euro was taller sleeker more elegant and regal, in both appearance and character. More in tune with my emotions, more loving in general and specific ways. She did hone in on me (rougher tumbler, but not big guy playpal) as main squeze over less active mom (but they cuddle enough over years and gal would 2x back 2 guard mom in public. Still Fair 2 say more my dog though). Our new 1/4 usa Dobie also quite loving and bond more 2 me as playpal, but extends more affection 2 mom in terms quantity; not nec quality. She Will also 2x back 2 guard mom in public. Her conformation -- short stout and stronger pound 4 pound. her general personality temperament coarser less refined. Raw IQ ranks equal, but Euro esp type savvy in discernment of situations. both about 80 lbs despite different builds. Lower center of gravity on gal 2 makes leash training more vital to prevent pulling. Taller leaner all euro gal was easier 2 handle on lead. Also more athletic and fun to run fetch, but 1/4 usa gal is surprisingly fast for stocky type and spirited fetch player. Other edge I would give to 1/4 usa gal is that she doesn't need an extra 15-20 mins of exercise late in day. 1/2 hour suffices in extreme weather, whereas 100% euro still wants their minimal hour a day; even if not true need. Of course, both want play and attention all day long if u indulge velcro tendencies. I admit my prior exp w/ pit mix, gsd doesnt hurt when it comes 2 dobies. But i wholeheartedly disagree that a 1st time owner isn't ready 4, or can't handle a Dobie; even 100% euro. she was my first adult dog after kiddie dog died and it was 20 years between pity and dobie. So i was like new fur baby daddy. any and all perspective Dobie owners should not listen to the haters naysayers, because if you do, then u will be missing out. Bottom line, this euro vs. Usa thing is like do you prefer ice cream or cake. They both desert, taste great and preferable to the main meal eh. I guess euro usa mix is ice cream cake -- best of both worlds. 😋 Life's short and all dogs are big outlay responsibility, so might as well skip straight 2 what u want and learn what u need as u go. where there is a will there is a way.

I've had 2 half and half now... I lost my male Anubis to DCM in August but he was the sweetest dog I've ever had... very owner pleasing...very and super velcro... I feel he had more American personality...my female puppy Phoenix is the opposite of him... very rambunctious...very sassy...very dominate..very stubborn....both super intelligent..both constant check ins... just amazing dogs...

I have owned both Euro & American, and can honestly say my heart is full of equal love for both, I really do not see a difference, both of mine were athletic, smart, and the most loving and loyal companions, I was truly blessed!!! my last passed this past September at 16 yrs 3 months, and just rough, trying to move on, will eventually and maybe getting a 1/2 & 1/2 would be an ideal choice. Thank you for all of your great videos, have enjoyed them all

I've been looking for a half and half! Where did you find yours? Can't tell you how much I went back and forth. Then I was like ok American female: sleak, sweet yet serious, and loves to cuddle. Hoping to get one wanting with tons of energy loving to exercise. Then found out about the half and half. Now I've seen this video and now it's a guarantee. I agree half and half best of both worlds. Especially with those faces! Bring that nose for a boop👉🏾🐽😂 dobies have the most boopable noses😍

I have enjoyed watching your videos. I've owned Dobes since 1972 and obviously love the breed. I would suggest that you consider doing a video comparison between working lines and show lines. I think it would be a better comparison. My current dose, Sky, was bred in Canada. The dam was imported from Europe the sire was bred in upstate NY from an import female and a US bred male who was the highest titled Dobe. A AKC Champion, UDC Champion, IOPIII, FH2, CDX, TDI, CGC,etc. So Sky isn't really half and half but from strong working lines.
@carlobella18502 жыл бұрын
Dogs who have been bred for show in the United States have been bred down. You’re not going to find a working line from these types of dogs. Not one that came from straight up American Llines in the last 50 years. They’ve been bred to look different and have different temperament. It is actually sad what they did to these dogs. It’s great that you have working dogs that have some American lines in them… not the same thing as European lines bread in the United States.

On this journey.!!!! Always had American (5). This is the Breeders second litter with frozen sperm from here 12 year old and now pasted European . Only 7 months old and doing our best to train at home as puppy classes are in short supply. But already seeing she’s the brightest of any of the dogs we’ve had. Not highly energetic needs. Loves stretching out with us. Which is different then some of our others who liked being close but wanted their own space too . She takes over the space! Suspicious of strangers but quickly accepting of them. Again few and far between due to covid. Can’t wait to see who she turns into. Huge bark for such a petite girl!! Jumper and loves to sprint. Very fast. Glad to see this post and everything you post honestly. Great breed and falsely criticized. Dobies rule!!

I like the half and half Dobermans. There are two reg'd DPCC breeders in Ontario who breed the two, combined. (I am sure there are several not reg'd and do not care about health etc). They are titled, as well, and are involved in schutzhund trials. Beautiful dogs. Great video idea and information.

We have a half and half and he is extremely active, very smart, and extremely loyal. He does have some issues with wet neck and lips, but he’s still a beautiful dobie. He is stubborn, but responds well to positive reinforcement via treats. He is still mouthing a lot at 6 months and that habit is hard to break. This video was a great video for my mixed dude. Thanks man.

As a half and half Doberman owner. Macy is 2 now and fully matured and a lot of what you said rings true. I didn’t want a lap dog, well not all the time. She definitely is a space hog and likes too be close and sleeps with me. She is stubborn so we have to make sure she knows she is not the boss! Very protective, but sweet too. Great mix!!!

Many thanx Jhon for your important research and honest conclusions!!! "individual traits are prevalent over those of breeds". That's is my experience with two dobbies, one each variety. 2. It would be interesting to see same comparison between Dobermans and other working breeds. Particularly "being in tune with owner emotions". In my experience, Dobbies are cuasi humans.
