Giant Trevally, Caranx ignobilis
Widely distributed in the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Adults are pelagic, inhabiting lagoons and seaward reefs while juveniles live in estuaries. Feeds on crustaceans such as crabs and lobsters and can grow up to 1.7 m weighing 60 kilos. It is one of the most delicious and highly prized fishes in many parts of the world.
In the Philippines, C. ignobilis is included in the fifty (50) peso bill. It is called “maliputo" in Batangas, “talakitok" in Tagalog and “mamsa” in Cebuano.
