This was written by Doc who sat the time was mourning the loss of his girlfriend. This was most likely the original version but made it with electric guitars as he was in The Angels. Rip doc

History. Neeson said that the song was originally written as an acoustic ballad about grief and loss. The girlfriend of Neeson's friend was killed in a motorcycle collision, and the two friends were discussing life after death. The conversation inspired Neeson to write the lyrics.

This song was originally released as.ballad, similar to this version (back when they were called "The Keystone Angels"). I can't find a recording of it anywhere, but landed here. If anyone can link to a source for the original I'd be grateful
