And according to court records John Lewis was never convicted of the crime. But he only lived a few more years, so I guess there is some justice. Also we always visualize "little Omie" as being young and led astray by an older John Lewis when it may be, some question here, that she was older with one or two out of wedlock children already and Lewis was possibly in his teens at the time. This might explain the difficulty in getting a conviction.

@@ArthurB26 Chances are slim that he was innocent but sure it’s possible. He had motive and opportunity. He was seen in the area, and escaped after being charged. The only thing lacking was an eye witness and that is probably what prevented a guilty verdict.

@@elliottcrews4997 I honestly didn't even know it was based on a true story until now. I alwys presume innocence without overwhelming evidence so I'll have to look into the case. Thanks for the info.

@@ArthurB26 The most accurate book is a recent one called, Naomi "Omie" Wise: Her Life, Death, and Legend by Hal and Eleanor Pugh. A great read.
