For context, Singapore imposes the death penalty for drug posession above a certain quantity. His 3-year sentence seems harsh by the standard of other countries, but it’s a mere slap on the wrist compared to hanging. Don’t do drugs in Singapore.

America needs rehab programs and to put restrictions on guns too.

Hey, it's in tropics - it virtually never goes below 20°C/ 68°F. Yes, it's hard (pun not intended) but in other places in Asia they do that too. For instance, in Bombay - in that "ashram" on Arthur Road you also sleep on a bed-sheet placed on a concrete floor (well, at least it was like that back in the '90s), and for the pillow you had a bunch of coconut fibre lumps (just as ripped straight off a coconut husk) in a cloth sack (aka "pillow case"). But you can sorta get used to it, and you can take my word for it.... ;-)

Tagalogs literally ruined prisons. The old prisons were clean and treated the prisoners under strict and harsh military routines under both the Spanish and Americans. Now, prisons are filled with crooks bleeding the economy and not at all different from the sweaty slums across the now desecrated city of Manila. People have been brainwashed to think the Spaniards were the enemies, when it was the local officials who were corrupt, unseen by the eyes of Madrid, especially during the Spanish Civil War.

I can almost guarantee there will be consequences for him insulting the food too the press. They are similiar here. Ive never been to "prison" but i did spend several months in a county jail in the southern usa which is considered way worse than prison. I was eventually found "not guilty". Ill never get that time back. I can say, based on the conditions i saw/was put through, what you see on film is the tip of the iceberg. That baton on the guards side looked.... used .. worn even. To everyone saying Singapore is too strict and too harsh, think about it this way: Imagine a country with such a low crime rate that you feel safe sending your children to school alone on public transport every day. Where you can walk around alone at night and be perfectly fine. Where the ground is clean and the air is clean. Imagine never running into drug addicts getting high on the side of the road, never needing to worry about accidentally walking into the wrong alley and getting mugged. A country where school shootings do not exist, where gun violence does not exist. That is what Singapore is like, sure the laws can be strict and it isn't perfect, but I never lived in fear. I lived in Singapore for 18 years and am currently studying in the US for university. There are more crime alerts in a week on my school's campus alone then there is in a month in the entire country of Singapore. I miss the feeling of safety.

I was talking to an Australian lady who lived in Singapore. She was more than willing to forego certain political rights because it was a very safe place. In Australia, she had to have male friends accompany her to her car outside a restaurant because of the presence of unruly males outside. In Singapore, at least in this prison, the guards run the prison, unlike in many Western countries where it is the prisoners. Obviously, if you want little crime, Singapore is a great example of how to achieve it.
