When I start a stopped container, it immediately exits and I can't attach to that container using the next command. But how are you able to do that at 9:12?
@kamilnecas49964 жыл бұрын
Hello, I'm trying to learn Docker as well and have just tried to replicate the part of the video. Maybe, try to check "docker ps" - there should be no running containers. Please, try it one more time, it works fine for me. "exit", "docker attach MyUbuntu1" - returns error, "docker start MyUbuntu1", "docker attach Ubuntu1".

@@RaghavPal You're welcome Raghav. Thank you very much for all your videos. I have actually spent more time on making notes and I was able to replicate the error "You cannot attach to a stopped container, start it first". The problem is when we run the image not in Interactive Mode ("-it" flag), it exits from the container right away. So when we type command "docker start MyUbuntu1", it cannot be executed as "start" command starts containers which were STOPPED. This container was not stopped as it exited from running immediatelly after we executed it with "run" command. That's the core of the problem. Once you run the container in interactive mode and you decide to stop it, then you should be able to start it and attach. Hopefully it makes sense. :)

if the container is already running, then why we are using the cmd : docker run container_id or image_name again ? docker ps has already listed out the running containers.
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Hi Chirag Even though a container is running, you may still need to interact with it or start it with different options or configurations. Running a container with the docker run command again allows you to perform these actions. For example, if you want to start a container that is already running with a different configuration, you can use the docker run command with the appropriate options. If you want to interact with a running container, you can use the docker exec command. Also, if you stop a running container using the docker stop command, it will still exist in a stopped state. To start the container again, you need to use the docker start command. So, docker run is not only used to create a new container but can also be used to start a stopped container or to start a container with different configurations.

why docker attach is used pls expalin?
@RaghavPal Жыл бұрын
Devjith The `docker attach` command is used to attach a terminal to a running Docker container. This allows you to interact with the container's process as if it were running on your own machine. The `docker attach` command can be used for a variety of purposes, such as: * To debug a running container. * To run commands inside a container. * To monitor the output of a running container. To use the `docker attach` command, you need to provide the container ID or name of the container that you want to attach to. Here is an example of how to use the `docker attach` command to attach to a running container: ``` docker attach ``` Once you have attached to a container, you can interact with the container's process as if it were running on your own machine. You can run commands, view the output of commands, and even interact with the container's interactive shell. To detach from a container, you can press `Ctrl`+`P` and then `Ctrl`+`Q`. Here are some examples of when you might use the `docker attach` command: * You are developing a web application and you need to debug it. You can use the `docker attach` command to attach to the running container and then use a debugger to step through your code. * You are running a batch job in a container and you need to monitor its progress. You can use the `docker attach` command to attach to the running container and then view the output of the job. * You are running a server in a container and you need to interact with it. You can use the `docker attach` command to attach to the running container and then use the server's command-line interface. The `docker attach` command is a powerful tool that can be used for a variety of purposes. It is a common command that is used by Docker users of all levels of experience.

Why yum command is not working in container
@RaghavPal4 жыл бұрын
the command is specific to the OS you are running in the container, It may be using apt-get instead of yum

Hi Santhosh, following docker commands work on windows: docker run - start a new container from an image docker ps - list all running containers docker images - list all images on the host docker inspect - inspect the properties of a container or image docker stop - stop a running container docker rm - remove a container docker rmi - remove an image docker pull - download an image from a repository docker push - upload an image to a repository docker build - build an image from a Dockerfile *Note*: Some of these commands might require elevated privileges (run as administrator) to execute.

you are saying the container started after executing run command, again you are saying that the container will be started after executing start command.
@RaghavPal4 жыл бұрын
Hi, with docker run "image", the container gets created from the image. But we can also use network flag to start the container in the run commands. docs.docker.com/engine/reference/commandline/run/
