It must have been rippin' that day and straight up. I haven't been lucky enough to be down there when the hill is soarable with my glider and only once with the Condor. Fun video - Thank You for sharing!

I took lessons from Winds Sports back in 1978 (I was 18) when it was called Southern California School of Hang Gliding. They where on Imerial Hwy next to L.A. Air port. I had the privilege of learning from instructors Joe Greblo and Richard Grigsby. And on Sunday May 5, 2013, my daughter (18) and my girlfriend will be taking the beginner lessons and I'm going to do the same with an emphasis on getting up to speed so that I can fly Kagel Mountain and Crestline again!

tried to fly there in 1978, but the locals didnt like my 'homebuilt' with radial "fishing poles" tips, and "uncertified" glider. Ilove flying close to the ground, and have all over the great north west. great ground handling ..and looks like a workout

@skiffguy Looks like a cocoon harness. The cocoon harness was a natural step from the knee hanger but has been mostly replaced by the pod for recreational and competition use. The cocoon, however, provides much more support then the knee hangar and still provides the flexibility to move the body for extreme control movements

wind has picked up making it easy for a hang glider to alternate between flying and landing, mid day tempertures baked the ground allowing for good response from the wing, sand is always nice, because it gives off heat nicely, silica :D

Was it windy? I don't see too many people getting airborne there. Are you an instructor? How many flights did you have before this video?

What kind of harness is that ???

That would have been good, but what I wanted to do was get video through the wind shield from inside our vehicle.

How can he take off from the floor? Here in Brazil we do not have beaches and so good wind conditions, we have to take off from the top of mountains with 500m haigh. If you get the chance to visit brazil ( rio de janeiro) try to fly in São Conrado beache, the pilots take off from a mountain and land on the beach... the view is wonderfull!!! For you to get an idea check out my video on my you tube account!!! Best Regards.

The video is deceptive since you can't tell the wind is honking in over 15 knots at times. Just gently hop into the lift band away you go.
