Good information.. Can I use LDX 2101 instead of SS 316 for electrowinning applications where high concentration of sulphuric acid used

LDX 2101 is a Duplex steel so consists of ferritic and austenitic parts. It has a higher Manganese content compared to 316L which might lead to higher discoloration / manganese fumes. Due to the Nitrogen content it offers good corrosion properties as well. I would certainly consider it as an alternative for 304L but for hygienic purposes 316L is beneficial. Good day, Dr. Torsten Köcher. Pitting corrosion in tanks (35 m3) made of SS 316L. Use for fresh water. The chloride ppm is 15 and the chlorine is 0.3 ppm. I have used the graphic Chloride vs Temperature. Our case is Chloride 15 ppm vs 39°C and in these conditions isn´t probably corrosion. I have checked the pasivation works made by using citric acid under ASTM A380 and ASTM A967, and i can´t see no problem. I have measure the C02 % inside the atmosphere tanks and was 0.05%, and outside the CO2 is negative -0.011%. The tanks has a vent pipe DN150, and it only natural works when water level is up and down. The roughness surface is < 0.8 Ra. Finally in general it seems like most of the shopped (welding unions and hand polished) areas were corroded (although the surface quality was controlled

Pitting corrosion in Carbon manganese steel SA 106 GR.B pipe due to presence of chloride ions in atmosphere. So how this chloride ions are responsible for the corrosion and is this carbon manganese steel is good for ammonia fertilizer plants? Plz reply fast.....

Thank you for your question. Do we understand correctly that the corrosion takes place on the outer surface of your tubing system? In another application we also had pitting corrosion on the outer surface of stainless steel tubes. These tubes, made of the material 1.4404, ran partly under a roof and were exposed to the salty seawater air. The unprotected tube sections were regularly cleaned by the rain. Therefore, no chloride ions could accumulate on the outer surface of the unprotected tubes and cause corrosion. We are really very sorry about that. Bleach contains chlorides, which then lead to pitting.
