Wait, how do the Cs cancel out? If you have 0.5c+0.9c/1+(0.5c*0.9c/c^2), the Cs in this part (0.5c*0.9c/c^2) will cancel, but you'll still be left with the 1.4 c. Then, if you divide, you get 1.4c/1.45, which doesn't make sense, I think? Help!

+James X I'm just learning this right now too, but 1.4/1.45 = .965c. So instead of saying 1.4c/ 1.45, the rocket is going .965c

Einstein ? I don't think this approach of coordinate transformations were first introduced by him, but by Lorentz itself as a transformation that would agree with the two statements of special relativity.
