Doctor series in the 70's and 80's are way classier

This last series isn't really a comedy but I've become attached to the main characters after having watched the previous series.

I get Waring couldn't go on being a cheeky practical joker as in the 70s/80s - and while he always did care for his patients - you had the lighthearted tone. This really was becoming a drama - and the final two episodes are very unmemorable. Best ones were Bye Bye Bickerstaff and Kindest Cut... and even those were a bit ropey.

I remember when we were medical students we used to run behind a cardiologist who showed us in a super short time what we should hear...

I was recently operated in a Montréal hospital in order to have a cyst removed. Here in Québec, the health-care system is bursting at the seams and, while there is officially no private health care, there are private services not covered by the RAMQ (régie d'assurance-médicale du Québec.) Also, there are fairly long waiting lists for certain operations. That being said, I must say that I did not see such scenes of chaos and degeneration as depicted in this episode of Doctor at the Top during my various appointments and my eventual stay at the hospital. In the end, I had excellent specialists who attended to my condition and the service at the hospital was A1. I sincerely hope that future generations can enjoy free and universal access to medical care and that health care will continue to be considered a right. In a rich, post-industrialized country such as Canada (and I will include the United KIngdom), the complete opposite is nothing less than an outrage.

Just as long as you don't emulate the American health care system. Millions of people have gone bankrupt, broke, and on the street because of the for profit system down here. There should be a better way!

Barry Evans should of been in this but I love the theme

How Boring this generation of medical students are compared to the ones from the 60's-70's.

I agree, but you have to remember that the students in the 60's and 70's weren't dealing with the AIDS epidemic. Life wasn't as much fun in the 90's.

I wonder how Dick became a top surgeon when he was nothing more than a mediocre anesthesiologist? The more I watch this series the more I find it hard to believe that George Layton wrote it, Apart from the names of the characters these people have nothing in common with their younger selves.

Bryan Braddock I agree. And Dr. Upton should be back in the series as well. The older series are the best!

He was a definite Jack-the-lad with a gambling problem... that he's now a married respectable father and basically replacing Loftus is too hard to grasp.

Barry Evans had a fall out with his co actors and producers in the original 'Doctor' series. George Layton claimed he was very difficult to work with, this was due to Evans' insecurities.
