Doctor Barbie (1987) - Doll Review

I never got Dr. Barbie or Dr. Ken, I only have Nurse Whitney from this assortment. You're making me want to get this doll now. :) Not sure why I passed on her, she's really pretty and I can see her being a great redressing model for 1980s fashions. Obviously Whitney is the star of this assortment, and every assortment she appeared in. I had a hard time finding Whitney on eBay, since I didn't get her back in the day. I promptly redressed her, naturally. Nobody has time for that awful nurse getup. Here's some trivia for you. While this is the first Dr. Barbie doll, this isn't the first time she could be a doctor. In 1973 there was a Get-Ups 'N Go fashion featuring surgical scrubs and a lab coat, called "A Busy Doctor's Professional Wardrobe". Looks pretty hilarious on Malibu Barbie. Ken had a matching Get-Ups 'N Go fashion, so they apparently finished up med school sometime before 1973. Of course, Ken had a doctor outfit in the mid 60s, so he had to have been an attending physician by 1987. :)

There was a Dr Barbie before this one. In the early 70s there supposedly was a Surgeon Barbie but I’ve never seen her listed anywhere on resell sites and the only reason I know she exists is that the Funko Mini Blind Boxes has a mystery figure for her and I saw her mentioned I think on some official Mattel media mentioning Barbie’s career history.

I believe this “Surgeon Barbie” Mattel seems to love promoting these days was merely a fashion pack. I’ve never seen an actual doll either, so I don’t think it exists. Being that it was a fashion pack, this one is still technically the first doctor doll in my book. Way more memorable too!

I just ordered my Doctor Barbie 👩🏼‍⚕️ I love all your videos !! You’re the reason why I’ve started collecting 80’s barbie! when I started collecting, I was obsessed with 90’s barbie, I wanted all the barbies I couldn’t have when I was a little boy! I’m a 90’s kid !! At first I didn’t really connect with any of the 80’s barbies at first, except 1989 Dance Club Barbie, because thats the year I was born! Thank you raytheunusual ❤️

isn’t it funny Whitney/PJ is always the third wheel in the box art, like on this, Jewel Secret and most importantly Dream date… Like da fahq… I mean Dream Date, Barbie, Ken and PJ. I guess three people on a date is a dream date. I feel like Ken was Bab’s beard and PJ/Whitney was her true love. She dumped PJ and got Whitney, who looks just like her… lol very Knots Landing Gary/Ciji/Cathy

I just got mine today! I spent only 10 plus shipping for her. I really want Ken and Whitney but Ken is so expensive and Whitney seems to be really rare as she isn’t on eBay right now.

Wow! That’s a great price for her! I know how elusive Whitney can be... it took me a while to find an affordable one but I finally did manage to get one for a reasonable price 😊

Actually I've seen a great horror movie with a clown, called "Terrifier". Have you seen this movie? It's really good.

I haven’t yet, actually! But I’ve heard from a lot of friends that it’s really well made :) it’s surprising how few Clown films are actually pretty good lol.
