Electronic was weird for me at the time, it was kind of ravey and I thought there was something else out there but I didn’t know what it was or what it was called. I then heard it on a late night radio show - I called up the DJ. He told me it was house. It was what I was looking for for years, what a revelation! Then Uk garage, DnB, African (afrobeat, afrocuban and soukous), and also Indian. Classical has been a constant throughout.

Easy answer. Because Macs have always been overpriced, and they haven't been "better" at anything since the mid 90s. If paying FAR too much for a fancy label makes you feel better about yourself, you don't need a Mac. You need financial counseling... NOTE: I'm not saying that Apple products are BAD. They are fine (usually). I'm saying that paying $2000 for $400 worth of good hardware is a bad decision.

You say that, but macs are far, far more stable. Literally every PC I’ve ever owned in my life, eventually gets super slow, buggy, virus-y, random annoying crashes and blue screen of death. Finally about 4 years ago I switched to a MacBook Pro (not even a new one, it’s a 2012). And I literally have not had one crash in four years. It is almost ten years old and still absolutely lightning fast, super stable, with not a single crash or issue - something that has NEVER been the case for any of the probably 10-15 pc’s I have owned in my life. Cheers

@@schmapps1 I agree. Also people like different types of workflows between both Mac and PC operating systems. I used to only use PCs for personal use, and Macs in large studios. No, it's not so easy as you point it out. Maybe for a home user, that can be the point, for a business user not. No good IT person would advise you to buy that $400 computer for the job, also not a good finical counseler. I work for a large company, we use Windows, Mac and Linux, the laptop I have is a Windows one, has no special specs or so, but cost at least as much as a similar MacBook, around $2000. Just because they need to last, being able not to work for one day extra costs already more than this $1600 you might save on the cheaper computer. HW Costs are just a very small part. Saving $2000 on PC HW is on a usual business balance sheet hardly visible. And, when talking about "overpriced": I paid around $3000 more than 6 years ago for my iMac I'm typing this on, I figured out that even only a display with that quality (27" 5K, good viewing angle, good colours) would cost already more than that... Apple HW is not so expensive as people think, for a branded business PC, you pay similar amounts.

21:50 Mac or PC platform? Yes, agree with the cost considerations and goals are still achievable with that choice. Software can be a decider for platform. I'm basing my little studio around Ardour DAW software, which is available on Mac and PC, as well Linux. So it doesn't matter so much for me, though I do have all three. If one can own or have access to more than one platform then it widens the technical skills - good for the CV. But as well as being cross platform, Ardour is open source so there can be opportunities to shape the software unlike with other products. Being open its free though a regular donation is encouraged to support development. I like this was to avoid being tied into a commercial product roadmap where the long term cost could be higher.

QUESTION: I am wondering why you have not done a video with/focused on the Komplete Kontrol Keyboards? You said in this video that you do not do reviews unless the gear makes it into your studio which made me raise an eyebrow. You see the first time you actually mentioned this key keyboard (and maybe the only time) was when you did the studio tour a few years back and we very briefly saw a Komplete Kontrol keyboard 61s right beside your main Production Dr. Mix Scan PC and you said it was "a very very good keyboard" and moved on without a another word (at 29 : 00 in that video). Surely a keyboard right beside your main production PC means it is at the top of your stack at least in terms of versatility? You spent more time talking about the Arturia Keylab 49 saying it was “your go to keyboard for virtual instruments” yet it was not in arms reach from your production PC where all the virtual instruments are. Did I miss a video where you talk about the Komplete Kontrol? If not, I am sure many here would love your thoughts. Thanks for all the great content!

You can't upgrade a Mac; you can't drop in the newest hottest gaming video card like you can with a PC. All you can do it go buy a whole new Mac. I built my first PC some 17 years ago and have upgraded it a few times, replacing the motherboard/cpu, drop in a new video card, add RAM when it's on sale, change from Hard Disc to an SSD, etc. For say, $1500 you can DIY a high end MONSTER gaming machine that will leave even the latest most expensive Mac in the dust. I've been a windows artist forever, and it's based off of the horror stories some of my peers have had with macs. Picture being tied to a pole in the basement with a gag and blindfold, and ten feet away is this GORGEOUS spanish 47 year old just WAITING to go halves on a mini van for a bright future...that's a mac.

Just remember, although PC's are cheaper, cheap is not always better. I grew up programming in the early days in windows, early being in the early 90's though to 2000 whilst doing computer science at uni, just had enough of the blue screen of death, crashes, having to download a multitude of drivers when using third party hardware. I switched to Mac's back in 2006, have never looked back. They get the job done, does not crash on me as I maintain it, plus, they were always the better choice for graphic and multimedia design.... crickey, that sounds like old school terminology, multimedia...

@@TobiasTimpe The sound quailty that's either input or output depends solely on ad/da converters, and the performance (number of tracks, fx, synths etc) on the hardware, not on some fancy made-up words that mean nothing, like core audio. But snakeoil wouldn't exist without the true believers, so go make cook some dough. Yours truly, an electronics engineer.

I bought a macpro and a hp in the same year 2008. The windows machine has had three viruses, the mac none. Ive had to rebuild the windows machine 3 times. Never had a problem with the mac, which i am still using. The windows machine needs another rebuild., Having said all that,,, im considering switching to a pc because macs are soooo expensive. But then again, 13 years of unfailing reliability,,,,that really says something about the quality of the macpro. Just my 2cents

Let’s say you buy a Mac Pro (which you don’t need to most of the time) for 6K, remember how expensive actual studio gear is: NS10s, Genelecs, U87 stereo pairs, 1073s. And don’t even start with how expensive analog recording used to be: Studer A800, 24-track mixer, 30 minute tapes for around $ 100 each. You are lucky you don’t have to deal with all of this nowadays. 6K for a tape machine + unlimited tape without flutter etc is nothing.

0:02 this chord instantly takes me back to Peg by Steely Dan! (and by the way, isn't Peg a great song to remake? >:^) all them horns recreated by the Swam engine 🤤)

Peg is SO well produced, love it. Minus that guitar solo that just does not fit the vibe. At all. It should have been some nice deep raw warm synth instead. But still, amazing production.
