I thought it was interesting that Wanda kept calling Dr. Strange a hypocrite. She said when he broke the rules, he’s called a hero. When she broke the rules, she’s called a villain. But it reminds me of when the Ancient One back in the first Dr. Strange movie broke the rules and drew power from the Dark Dimension. Everyone was mad and called the Ancient One a hypocrite. However, the Ancient One broke the rules to HELP people and not for greed. Dr. Strange did the same when it came to using the Time Stone and when reading the Darkhold. Was it wrong? Yes. But he broke the rules for the right reasons: to HELP people. Wanda broke the rules for greed and selfishness.

I was basically telling my mom this. Everyone did something wrong in order to help the greater good. And between Stephen and Wanda despite him wanting to be with Christine he chose to be the bigger person and put aside his wants to save the multiverse. While Wanda though sympathetic didn't give a damn what happened to anyone as long as she got what she wanted by stealing another Wanda's kids. And obviously we saw what happened to the other Strange who DID DO what Stephen wanted to do, but ultimately failed.

Let’s not forget that Wanda killed Vision to stop to save half the universe but because Dr Strange gave Thanos the time stone, her sacrifice meant nothing and she still lost Vision. So Wanda did have at least one good reason to be angry at Dr Strange. Also she did destroy the evil Darkhold in every universe (presumably with her life) so don’t say Wanda didn’t do anything huge for the greater good. Frankly the destruction of the Darkhood books out ways the killing of the Illuminati crew.

@@pmpowalisz What happened to vision was not Doctor Strange’s fault. Any other reality they would have lost and vision would have died anyway. This was the only way and Wanda has no right to be angry at Doctor Strange who literally disappeared for five years to save everyone. He lost Christine to another man and lost the Sorcerer Supreme title. He’s someone who lost everything as well ( his sister died in front of him and he couldn’t save her, his mentor died and his other mentor betrayed him and stabbed him in the back and tried to kill him, and if they went with the comics then he lost his brother and parents as well ) and he tried multiple times to reason with her but she threw it back in his face. Wanda has killed so many people in Kamar-taj and in other universes as well not just 838. She killed defender strange as well. God knows how many people she killed through different universes while chasing America.

“Do not talk to me about sacrifice, Stephen Strange” That line got me the wrong way and I think it was meant to do so. Wanda is so crazy and obsessed that she doesn’t care about other people at all. Strange lost his sister, He lost his hands and his profession, he gave up his old life and the woman he loved to save the world, he was tortured by an unspecified amount of time by Dormammu, he died to save the earth from Thanos, and people still give him crap for being an instrumental part in saving the world from Thanos. I don’t think Strange is as tragic as Wanda and she definitely has the most tragic upbringing but I also think If there’s anyone that could’ve understand her it was Stephen.

Wanda overall was just dealt a REALLY SHITTY hand in life, and it was just a series of unfortunate traumatic events one after the other for her. I hated how the mid-credit scene undercut the ending of the film. You truly had a horror movie ending of Strange seemingly moving forward with his life, walking down the street with a smile only to curl over in pain and have the 3rd eye appear like a "You really thought it was over?" moment. Then you have the mid-credit scene where life seems to be 'back to normal' only for a magical woman to appear and tell Strange to help fix and incursion only for him to seemingly open the third eye with ease meaning that there must be a gap we'll get in the 3rd film showing Strange dealing with the eye and then being able to control it at will. Really wish that scene wasn't in the credits....

Alot of reviewers have been questioning Wanda's apparent regression after Westview, where she let go of her conjured reality and family. But remember, the end of Wandavision was ambiguous and she retreated into isolation quickly after so it's not surprising that she continued to seek a way to be with her family. There was no one there to help her process her trauma and grief. Her character experienced repeated loss and trauma throughout her life and the coping mechanisms were always to seek comfort in family, first her twin brother when she lost her parents, then when he passed away there was Vision. She needs companionship but was ignored by the other Avengers when she needed them most, showing they are not friends or family but a utilitarian construct of martial defence. Not saying anyone deserved what she did, just that the villain was in a way constructed by everyone's indifference. This makes the final scene where the other Wanda shows compassion quite heartbreaking. The only other empathetic individual who tried to help her was herself.

Of course people try to minimize her trauma but her twins were her last vestiges of hope, so as soon as she read like half the Darkhold at the end of WV of course she was too far gone-- she honestly would have replicated Westview but the catch was they couldn't leave the hex. She tried not to actively hurt people and the Darkhold twisted that desire too, had our Strange kept using it I'm sure he'd be more than just possessed by Agamoto. Vision was gone to restore his emotions on a VisionQuest just like the comics, Hawkeye was with his family and she didn't want to interrupt that, literally the only person who's trying to save her is Stephen. Everyone else thinks she should be stopped no matter the cost, even other Stranges would. It sets up Meri being besties with Billy after he's aged up magically or multiversally. @@nailinthefashion Yes, good to point out Stephen still saw her as Wanda and was empathetic. I like Stephen's character growth is him affirming his value system. For me this is where comic book films really shine when they give the protagonist an ethical conundrum that is solved through a rigorous value system that is tested to the limit. It is easier to vanquish villains than save them. This, for me, was what was compelling about No Way Home, Peter Parker's instinct to understand threats and enemies rather than destroy.

Wanda /Scarlet Witch was my favorite part of this movie. Her being the villain and being as scary and overpowering as she was took this over the top for me. Her character brings up interesting challenge to how we view morality, in that she had the power to warp reality and not have to accept losses the rest of us have to deal with. Being able to create life with magic is a temptation no one will ever experience, so Her going crazy made so much sense. Thing is just about every major Marvel hero has lost something significant and been forced to give something up to do the right thing. So for me Wanda worked in this film as a response to that. Essentially, what happens when a hero (with a huge amount of power), actively chooses to do the wrong thing. I can be sympathetic to her because she definitely got a raw deal, but everything she does in this film comes across as self-serving and irrational precisely because it is. Now wether or not she can come back and be considered reedemed? I'm not sure. In the comics Marvel has a storied history of writting her into these extreme corners that would make for fascinating character studies...but not knowing how to get her out of them. She may have started on a path back to good here, but I will not be able to take the next project with her seriously if they just welcome her back with open arms.

Not mind controlled, she did all those brutal murders on the people of Kamar Taj and Illuminati without mercy. She could easily incapacitate them. But no, she straight up murders those people. What's worst is, there's some many way she could gain access to America Chavez. She could easily dream walk into one of the earlier universe, "save" America from a monster, gain her trust then steal her powers. If there's a redemption arc for her, that better be a really good one. Her excuse of "a mother missing her non existing children" could only go so far.

Don’t make those poor kids try and sing about ice cream to be cute, because it really wasn’t and it was the only scene that genuinely took me out of the movie. Just imagined being on set for however many takes it took to get what actually made the cut. @mcnooj82
@mcnooj82 2 жыл бұрын
@@bronzetiger6360 I don't think so. The movie introduces Wanda as someone who has an intense connection to her children... and shows that it's a dream... that is later explained to be connected to the multiverse. And shortly after shows us that she's someone willing to access the multiverse to get real versions of those same kids. For the purposes of this single movie, that's enough to establish her motivations for resorting to such extreme measures. We don't need to know who the kids are beyond being Wanda's fixation. All that matters is that they're sweet kids that love their mom. What more do you need to know? Even the very brief mention of Westview is specifically brushed aside by Strange to focus on the main plot. A mother doing whatever it takes to get her kids back is a very straightforward motivation that doesn't require watching WANDAVISION at all to follow this movie. It only matters if one feels entitled to have seen every past movie/show explained by the next movie. I know some people watch media that way, but I don't respect it hahahah Even the introduction of Wanda into the movie is contextually set up by Strange being told that the monsters are based in witchcraft. So he goes to see a witch he knows. That's not all that different from FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING having Gandalf visit Saruman for guidance/help regarding The One Ring. And like Wanda, Saruman is quickly revealed to have darker intentions in his first scene. I know that Tolkien's source material has all sorts of additional details about that relationship, but for the purposes of Jackson's first LOTR movie, I felt he provided exactly the context anyone uninitiated needed to know in order to follow the movie. We don't need to have read all of LOTR or Silmarillion in order to understand what's happening (at least I didn't need to back in 2001).

I'm thinking the next phase is heros in universe 838 coming to get revenge for what Wanda did. I feel they wouldn't kill all those characters who have connections to other hero variants for nothing. That's 5 groups of heros you can use.

That musical notes fight reminded me of the Bolero scene from LEGION but they used the notes to build a shield instead of as projectile.

If Wanda had just dedicated herself to finding a universe where she was dead but the boys were alive, everyone would have busted their ass to make that happen. I wish Chadwick Bozeman had lived to be part of the Illuminati. Charlize Theron as Clea almost makes me forgive Marvel for not casting her as Carol Danvers.

Well Wanda def ain't dead considering Elizabeth Olsen signed a new 7 movie contract so she's def coming back but can they redeem her is the question. She's done terrible things in the comic's as well but they also found ways to redeem her but as far as the movies go she has to do alot to be redeemed in my eyes atleast.

Smart and wise are different. If it was Captain America, it wouldn't have went down like that. Reed is known to be cocky. Even Black Bolt had a cocky smirk on his face .

Btw the movie addresses Corey’s so called plot holes. Fist, in the movie Wanda says she will travel to other worlds if one of her kids gets sick. That line implies that Wanda is not going to stop even if she gets her kids. Second, America Chavez states that she is the only one, there are not other versions of Chavez in the Multiverse. This pretty much confirms that there are not infinite versions of all people in the multi-verse. There are plenty of dimensions where there are no Wanda twins. It’s cosmic randomness you’re not gonna be able to get everything you want. personally I like America Chavez‘s performance, yeah they don’t give the actress a lot to do but that makes sense because she is a vulnerable child. She isn’t one of these “super kids” which is a problem with a lot of writing when it comes to fictional characters across genres. Even though she’s a child and she cannot control her powers, through her mannerisms and little droplets of character, it’s pretty obvious that she has courage. And I thought the child-writing was really good because of that. I feel like Chavez and Doctor Strange have chemistry, but it was just written incorrectly? Doctor Strange has been shown in the past to be a very closed off person especially to children and young people. But I feel like with all the things that they went through Chavez should’ve been like an adopted daughter to him. Like I thought she was going to be his apprentice at the end of the film and get a big hug or a pat on the head. This is post Spider-Man Doctor Strange so I imagine, even with the forgetting-spell there would be some paternal instinct still left in him.

This could have been really good but there wasn't a buildup of her character to allow her to become such a villain. And they didn't give enough to convince us that Wanda was changing into a villain. If she had a progression and things that affected her not having children I would have bought her reasons for being so evil.

A thought occurred to me about this movie. Wouldn’t it have been better to make Sinister Strange the main villain behind all the monsters going after Chavez? Like you could still have Wanda in the movie helping Strange and Chavez at first but over time, Sinister Strange would be using his string-pulling to tempt Wanda into using her powers to turn on Strange and Chavez just to get her kids back

I think these are the best directed kids he's ever gotten, but that being said, one of those kids was the younger version of a very troubled character in Haunting of Hill House. He was already bound to be one of the better child actors in a Raimi movie, but only because that he almost got classically trained by a guy who did know how to direct kids.
