When i worked as an ICU nurse one the the MD'S calculated his ACTUAL hourly wage for his hours worked vs nurses and we came out on top. Nurses work 3 12 hour shifts/week full time. We leave work at work. Doctors depending on the specialty work anywhere from 8-16 hour days 5-6 days a week and still have to work to finish charts, labs, and xrays at home. Nurses quality of life away from work is MUCH better. But nurses work is more taxing mentally and physically. Docs are in and out

Per hour even a full fledge doctor surgeon post residency can end up earning less then a 7 to 11 year experienced nurse (same age). Remember doctors have way shittier hours then most nurses. 80 to 140 hours depending on how unlucky u get vs a nurses 36 to 48 Since u are required to pay time and half for every hour between 40 and 50 and double time after that. 80 hours translates to roughly 120 paid hours. I think your mixing up lifestyle creep with Ben underpaid
@alexlovespeace Жыл бұрын
So the reason they feel underpaid is because there is a huge shortage of nurses nationwide. The vast majority of nurses are taking on 5-8 patients when they actually should be caring for a maximum of four. If you’re working 12 hour shifts where you can’t even take your lunch break because you’re too busy, you’re going to feel underpaid. This is why travel nursing is becoming more popular. Travel nurses are paid more and get contracted to work in hospitals that are understaffed. The only down side is the lack of stability that comes with traveling to new hospitals every few months. You leave your friends and family behind to be shipped off somewhere new where you know nobody.
@APatient7 ай бұрын
I'm a BSN, RN. First, yes even while paid well it does not seem well enough for the amount of work that we do. Yes, we live at work because every unit is short-staffed and they always need someone but usually most RNs work 3 days/week for ~12hours. In ~2 months of work as a new "lower-paid" nurse, I put away 10k into savings after all my bills and fun spending. However, depending on where you live the cost of living may be higher thus draining their income faster 🤷🏾♀️

Larger cities this the starting salary right out of nursing school, thanks to the pandemic. They also often get between 5-20k starting bonuses if they sign a contract not to leave in a certain amount of years. I work for a hospital system in medium-large sized metro area.

In residency, doctors don't get paid based on time worked and they have to put in a lot of hours to meet the demands of the program. The payoff is pretty nice though. After residency, even hospitalists with no specialization can expect a 200k+ salary and only working 50-60 hrs/wk. Become a surgeon? 300k+. A cardio/neuro/plastic surgeon? 500k+
@karimevelasco28132 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it says starting salary, so the doctor would be a resident. And I believe a 1st year surgical resident gets paid $8-10 an hour. Around that. It depends. I calculated and he gets paid around $14.4/hr.
