Hello 👋 I just want to mention that I've been having a lot of trouble when it comes to getting copyright claimed for Doctor Who. I don't understand exactly what's happening, but the copyright claims are affecting videos that have been approved and have been sitting there for a few weeks with no issues. Suddenly, the entire video will be claimed. This is happening with every episode I upload lately. I'm going to have to start editing the Who episodes differently. I've experimented with adding a logo to this one. If that doesn't work, I will then change my layout and show less of the screen using cropping. Also, more blurs or removal of the footage. It is getting very frustrating. I'm not wanting to stop Who but I need to change a few things so just wanted you to know why the Who videos will look different to my other videos. Thank you 😊

Sorry you're having so much trouble with the Who reactions Juliette. Do whatever is needed, we all understand the difficulties with copyright. And I hope it doesn't come to it, but if it does become too much of a problem maybe dropping Who would be for the best, at least on KZbin. You could maybe put both the full and edited reactions on Patreon.

Howard Attfield, who played Donna's Dad Geoff Noble, did film some scenes but became too unwell to continue and died during filming. This episode was dedicated to him. Bernard Cribbins, who had starred in the previous episode Voyage of the Damned, as a newspaper salesman named Wilfred Mott, was brought back to re-film Attfield's scenes, now establishing Wilfred as Donna's grandfather. The video release shows Attfield's scenes in a special feature.

I love a few things about Donna as a proper and not a guest-star companion right off the bat. First, she knew what she was getting into because she'd already done it. She didn't just fly off with a cute alien in a blue box because it sounded fun and she was still high off the adrenaline rush. She took time to think about what she wanted, and then she Took Steps. She became something like Torchwood all on her own and investigated every weird thing she could find looking for the Doctor on a shoestring budget and without weapons-and she found him in an impressively short amount of time. You immediately know Donna is persistent, systematic, committed, and pretty amazingly competent when she puts her mind to it. Next, the "What do you need?" Before Donna met the Doctor, she was a professional assistant. She is incredibly organized. She plans ahead. She anticipates needs. She also doesn't assume she's helpless because she's human. She ASKS what she can do and finds a solution, and it's practical and studied and the Doctor NEEDS someone who can work with him to actually troubleshoot like Donna. Finally, I LOVE that Donna is not a love interest. It is so healing for the Doctor at this point to travel with a woman who doesn't want him. Someone to keep him company, someone to share awesome things with and laugh with and hug on occasion. But no tension. No unfulfilled hopes and dreams for anybody. Donna is self-actualizing with the Doctor, in it for the same reasons he is: to see the universe. And it is JUST what he needs after realizing how badly he messed up with Martha.
@gazzamanazza4pm5 ай бұрын
Couldn't agree more, that's why Donna's my favourite companion all the way, except for maybe Sarah Jane. Come to think of it, Donna investigating strange things all on her own without any weapons is pretty similar to how Sarah Jane was doing things before she met the Bannerman Road kids.

I think we are supposed to think she;s just an interfering busybody for doing exactly the kind of thing we would want a journalist to do. And more or less the same thing that Donna and the Doctor were doing. Justice for Penny, I say.

Spot the famous person. This week the award goes to … It would go to Bernard Cribbins but I mentioned him last week So the award goes to Sarah Lancaster who plays Miss Foster Sarah is known for being in Happy Valley, Yesterday and for playing Raquel in 532 episodes of the Guiness World Record holder of the longest running TV* soap, Coronation Street, which first aired in the UK in 1960 and is still going today. *The longest running soap ever is also from the UK but is a radio show. The Archers first aired on the radio in 1950 and is also still going.
@ColinM157 ай бұрын
*Sarah Lancashire. Who producer Phil Collinson went on to produce Coronation Street in the late 2000's, and was in charge as the soap celebrated its amazing 50th birthday (including a technically impressive live episode). Oh and the companion in the upcoming series of Doctor Who was a regular in "Corrie" quite recently. Needless to say for a show that is now approaching 64 years of age, there are many other connections between the two shows! (For one example, Anne Reid who played the blood sucking woman from Smith and Jones was married to Ken Barlow in the sixties. Ken Barlow was in the first episode of Coronation Street and is still in it now! In another programme, Last Tango in Halifax, Anne Reid played Sarah Lancashire's mother and went on to marry a character played by Derek Jacobi - the Utopia Master! (The fourth and final lead role in Last Tango was played by an actress who has had a long running role as the 8th Doctors' companion in audio adventures). Meanwhile if I was to tune into BBC4 right this second they are repeating an early 2000's drama called Clocking Off which not only starred Sarah Lancashire but also featured Master actor John Simm, and Christopher Ecclestone!

The sequence of events that led to the excellent continuity of this episode is actually quite something. First, Donna had only been planned as a one off companion. For this season, they had planned a companion called penny who would be a departure from the past two companions. Instead of being young she'd be middle aged and somewhat adrift in life. rtd eventually realised that he was just describing Donna and asked Catherine Tate back (although they referenced the original plan with the journalist character). Then, they had originally planned for the wilf character to be Donna's father Geoff, who walked her down the Isle in the runaway bride. They even filmed a couple of telescope scenes with him, but unfortunately his actor died during shooting. Looking to replace him, they ended up looking back to the immediate previous episode and brought back Bernard Cribbins (rip) as her grandfather, respectfully treating the father character as dead akin to his actor. This all adds up to the culmination of both the previous two Christmas specials of RTD1 producing Donna as she appears now, potentially one of the best fleshed out and accidentally well planned companions in the shows history.

According to a book called The Writers Tale (RTD going into the behind the scenes of showrunning, specifically Revival S3 & S4: emails; draft ideas; publicity etc.), originally the Revival S4 was gonna have Penny (the journalist) as the companion, & it'd have been a love interest relationship with Penny making the Doctor truly happy. But, Catherine Tate had fun doing The Runaway Bride & expressed interest in returning if she could, so it was decided to bring Donna back and have the pair being best mates rather than love interests like Rose & Martha. By the time filming on Revival S4 started, the Runaway Bride had released & based on the audience reception to Donna in The Runaway Bride, Catherine Tate filmed all of Revival S4 thinking she/Donna would be loathed by the fans. Though to her suprise, she went on to be a fan favourite companion, even in 2024.

Then she starts Revival S4 and based on Eccleston Doctor learning to let go of his trauma/Rose going from someone who says she has no future to becoming Defender Of Earth (well Pete's World)/ Martha learning her worth & saving The Doctor & Earth from the Master single handedly arc, we knew/know Donna was gonna get to develop even further.

Two pieces of trivia today. First, the program used to animate all the adipose children was called Massive, which is the program developed by Peter Jackson's WETA workshop to animate the battle scenes in the Lord of the Rings movies. Second, Tennant became so fond of Bernard Cribbins that, a few years later, he and his wife Georgia (more about her later), would end up naming one of their sons Wilf in his honour. On a personal note, I'm almost jealous that you're getting to see what's coming for the first time. I won't give any spoilers, except to say there are some people guest starring in the coming episodes that will come back in later seasons, but this season is considered one of the best of the new era, and right so. I'm positive you're going to have a blast, and hope you're copyright issues resolve soon. This was such a tremendous beginning to a season! I was in stitches when they saw each other through their respective windows, and then even more when they both realized that the "villains" had been watching their "secret" interaction the whole time!! And that poor woman who kept getting tied up!! And then the misunderstanding of "wanting a/to mate" was a nice topping to this already glorious dessert of an episode! And Rose too! I’ve been SO excited for you to get here! Donna is my favourite companion. This is one of my favourite series, it’s got one of my absolute favourite finales, Donna and Wilf are SO loved, fan favourites, and Donna’s relationship with the Doctor is SO good, one of the funniest, definitely one of the healthiest, does them both so much good, I just adore them.

Your happiness and joy for the Doctor and Donna team up is so moving! I think you are going to love this season, so much wonderful content up ahead for Donna, both individually and as a duo with the Doctor. I always loved Donna but as a working adult I don’t think I’ve related too her more than I do now ❤️🩹

And thus begins the reign of the (imho) very best version of Team Tardis ever. This companion with this Doctor is just * chef's kiss *. Cannot wait to see your reactions to this series.

Oh, Jules, it's so delightful to see your Doctor Who joy. I adore this episode, and this is widely regarded as the best series of new who so far. The chemistry between Tennant and Tate is off the charts, and there are some incredible stories to come. Donna is my favourite companion of all time! 🎉💛

Loved Donna ever since Runaway Bride. Still my favorite Nu Who companion. For me, I think Nu Who went overboard with 'we don't have a no hanky panky in the Tardis' anymore. One time, sure. But having Martha go goo goo gaa gaa over the Doctor too was a bit much, especially only being with him in just a couple of episodes. Donna was simply in it for the adventure, and it shows.

Got rec'd over for Buffy season five, my favorite season, and saw you were doing Doctor Who, too. I love this season so much. The Doctor and Donna are just comedic gold. Season four makes me happy.

This is honestly one of my favourite season starter episodes. That scene of Donna reuniting with the Doctor alone feels so genuine and hilarious. Like two crazy college friends who drifted apart but cause absolute chaos when they meet again. Great stuff.

With the first victim they had detected the interference from Donna's locket and activated full braek down, so in a sense it was her fault. And silent bit you missed was "This is brilliant"

I was very happy to see you excited for this episode, Juliette. Donna and the Doctor (D&D) make a great comedic team. I love both Rose and Martha, but Donna's relationship with the Doctor was a refreshing change

This is such a glorious season and I can’t wait to see your reactions to the upcoming stories as you experience them, Jules. And this episode is such a glorious way to kick things off - so much heart, humour and emotion squeezed into the one story - not to mention that cameo from Rose right at the end! And the Tate/Tennant combo is just electric - that miming sequence as the see each other again was entirely improvised as far as I recall - and it’s just hilarious.

😂😂😂 Great reaction To a fun first episode of season 4. The Scene where they finally see each through the door and talking to each other is gold. And what a surprise that Rose was in the episode, even if it was only for a few seconds, how great was that.

16:22 what makes it funnier is that we finally have a companion that wasn’t attracted to the Doctor. Think about it. Every companion up until Donna had the hots for him. Except Mickey. Even Jack was attracted to him. Which was funny. Heck Jackie (roses mum) tried hitting on him the first time they met too. XD but here, finally, a companion that has 0 romantic or sexual feelings for him. 😅

It’s not my favorite plot but the dynamic between Donna and the Doctor makes this one of my favorite episodes. Surprisingly while it’s not really touched on the unscheduled and full fat conversion(woman’s death) was technically Donna’s fault. If you notice it was triggered when she began messing with the necklace which was a transmitter used to trigger/control the pills so she accidentally caused it to happen early as well as apparently in overdrive. Of course she had no way of knowing any of this and it’s kinda ridiculous that twisting around the pill pendant/capsule would be enough to trigger the conversion.
