high gallifreyan is an interesting writing system. based off of adding epicycles to a circle, just like orbital mechanics of star systems and galaxies and connecting radial arcs. Timelords were the ones whom used the writing in order to protect time itself from people reading future events the Time Lord Academy wrote about. Common gallifreyan writing is just Greek lol. Classic Who with the Valeyard and Omega courtroom cases had it. The tomb of Rassilon had greek writing to warn those about the curse in the 3 doctors. Even The Doctor himself had no actual name to the Timelords, they all called him Timelord Sigma Theta, and thought his self title was just as arrogant as the Master.

One of the things that we never talk about is that the Doctor Learns how to program the Pandorica because he saw how River did it in the "Forest of the Dead" (yes 10 was working on it, but River told him to wait for the blip) and River knew how to do it because she watched the Doctor do it in this episode. One of the reasons series 5 may be my favourite of the modern era is the meta element. Little Amelia is 7 in 1996 when the Doctor and her meet but something isn't quite right so he has to go away again (1996 was when the first - unsuccessful - attempted revival, the TV movie featuring the 8th Doctor, was broadcast). Probably not coincidentally BTW, this means she was born in 1989 (the year 'Doctor Who' was cancelled). When he next returns adult Amy has had a somewhat unhappy childhood because the Doctor wasn't in it (i.e. she grew up when 'Doctor Who' was off the air - in the UK this is sometimes only half-jokingly referred to as "the wilderness years" ;). They have adventures and eventually the Doctor causes the universe to be recreated but it's minus himself (cancellation). Amy feels strongly that her reality is somehow incomplete (it's become a place without the Doctor in it - i.e. 1989-2005) and because she loves him (i.e. is a big fan of 'Doctor Who') and because he'd left behind a sort of subconscious image of himself in the story he tells her as she sleeps, she remembers him and brings him back into existence (when the show was off the air the character was "kept alive" in novels and audio plays, commercial ventures but often created by fans - the Doctor survived _in words_ basically, as Amy says "I found you in words..."). Russell T Davies, huge fan that he is, lobbied the BBC for years to bring the show back into existence. Steven Moffat, another huge fan of classic Who, series 5 showrunner and writer of this episode, got his first 'Doctor Who' fiction published in one of those books from when the show was off the air (incidentally, a pretty decent 7th Doctor short story called 'Continuity Errors' which contains the early origins of a _lot_ of the elements of his run on the show IMO). So to me the whole of series 5 is a lovely metaphor for the return of 'Doctor Who' with Amy as the fan that kept it alive by remembering what the Doctor meant to her as a kid (her "imaginary friend" who was nevertheless "...so, so important" ;).

Good reaction, this season was different - but in case you haven't noticed, you're really having fun watching this, lots of laughing at the goofy moments :) In fact, you're making me decide that perhaps 11 is my doctor after all. BTW - Matt Smith has said he modelled his Doctor on No.2 - Patrick Troughton, who was sometimes called a clownish doctor: "Though outwardly warm, bumbling, and somewhat clownish, the Second Doctor had a darker, more cunning aspect to his personality one which he usually kept hidden in order to carry out his plans.". p.s. as someone else said below, it's about to get more complicated if it's not already, Steven Moffat assumes audiences want to use their mind when watching Who :) Waiting for Season Six :)

Shayla apparently now in season 7 so I'm guessing the window for suggestions is closing. It'd be cool if she also did An Adventure in Space & Time. I've noticed a lot of reactors do the TV movie in between the Specials and the Eleventh Hour. Ironically, at the time, a lot of fans didn't like it for various reasons but in retrospect, it ends up being a bridge for the style & tone of the original series to the new one. Particularly, the plot, which was maligned by fandom at the time, fits in perfectly with the new series. And McGann himself is very much a new series style Doctor. The late 90s/early 00s are an awkward adolescent phase for sci-fi in general. It's really not until Battlestar Galactica is a hit that you start to get sci-fi series that have both modern writing *and* high production values. Star Trek Enterprise is a good example of a show was clearly designed to be something more but is dragged down by its TNG era production values. (Also mostly crap writing that forgot there were characters other than Archer, Trip & T'Pol)

Hi Shayla, I really enjoy your reaction video's. I don't know how far ahead you are by now but I wanted to make sure you knew about the minisodes for Doctor Who. "Different". I think that's how most long time Dr Who fans think. It doesn't quite feel like the Dr Who in the past. How many times in the past were we told how the Doctor couldn't go back into his own timestream and fix things that went wrong, or back with Christopher Ecclestone in Father's Day where he explains to Rose, having 2 sets of them at the same time and place can end up being very bad. With Steven Moffat's writing, those previously established rules are all gone in as in this episode to make his story work. It's still good sci-fi adventures, but not quite the Dr Who many of us spent years of our lives watching. That said, the main bad guys in season 6 are possible my favourite, even surpassing the Daleks.

You see the first glimmers of who he becomes in the last two eps of Series 5, and it's sooo good! And then I went and told myself I'd never love a Doctor as much as I did Eleven, only to have Thirteen crash into the world and be like HEY, YOU WANTED TO EAT YOUR WORDS ALL OVER AGAIN, RIGHT?!? 😃 And she's AT THE VERY LEAST tied with Eleven, now. I realize my comment is five years too late but I just discovered these reactions. A very important paradox avoidance is at about 3:23 when the Doctor asks Amelia how she got here. Amelia shows the Doctor the note and brochure and the Doctor tosses them. He could have just reused them right? No, because then they were never written; think that's a bootstrap paradox. Instead he tosses them and grabs a new brochure and note. Never mentioned but it's a sign of good writing, Moffat at his best.

The thing is, you shouldn't really see something different in the doctor at first-- because he is always the doctor. There is more the same in each doctor than there is different. From the very first doctor on, there has always been the sameness (even though there are differences). I think I said this before-- but humans change in an analog fashion. We change very slowly due to experiences (and chemical changes) over time. We remain the same person, but we change. With TimeLords, it's the same, but they are digital. They change all in one go. All the experiences of each incarnation's life, causes the changes into the next one. Look how nine, when he turned to ten, picked up Rose's accent and her youthfulness. So yes, he's changed-- but he's still the same, just as we are when we grow. I loved some eps in this season ( for example, Amy's choice-- which turned out to be a bit prophetic for the rest of the season, down to amy and rory experienccing two different timelines and Rory dying- but coming back), but others i didn't like as much. But it was a great finale and I just ADORE Rory. Who is now older than the Doctor!

We all change, when you think about it. We’re all different people all through our lives. And that’s OK, that’s good, you gotta keep moving...

This is the first series finale where no one in the cast left the show. It made for nice change. Feels good not to be heartbroken at the end of the series, doesn't it?

Hello Shayla. I think this was a happy Finale for once, unlike S4. What? That was a surprise, Amy in the Pandorica. We go Amy and Rory’s wedding 👰 🤵. And off they go for more adventures in S6.
