“You’ve redecorated, I don’t like it.” That is a line that started with the Second Doctor and has been used by a lot of them since then.

8:29 That's the late, much-loved actress Lynda Baron, making her 3rd appearance in Doctor Who. She'd previously played a kind of space-pirate captain in the 5th Doctor story "Enlightenment", and her voice (as a ballad-singer) featured heavily in the 1st Doctor story "The Gunfighters" way back in 1966.

That moment when he saw Amy and Rory, it been along time for him since he saw them. It 200 years for him when he drop them back at home. The Doctor is very old now at this point of the show and I keep forgetting that because The 11th Doctor has a younger face. That ending was bone chilling. It must have been scary for River knowing she about to kill the man she loves. Cannot wait to next week episode. The finale.

I've alwyas worked on the assumption the ship had something to do with the events of The Next Doctor. All we knew about the Cybermen in that was they had fallen through cracks in time, so it is possible the ship fell through with them in it. Some escaped after the ship got buried before being defeated by Ten, then the ship got buried even deeper over time. The crew spent the next century in hibernation until the new power lines provided them with the energy boost needed to awaken.

I really don't understand the - let's be nice - negative reactions most British people have towards James Corden. He's a great comic actor and I really enjoyed the moments I saw of his American talk show. Back in August I went to see him (and Anna Maxwell-Martin, Suki from 'The Long Game') in a play at the Old Vic. Corden was terrific, comedic at the start, battle-scarred and unsettling at the end. He poured everything into that performance. Won't hear a word against him.

Well, isn't this nice? A fun-filled, care-free romp with Craig and Stormageddon... that leads into the Doctor's melancholic death march. 😆 This is indeed a fun one, with a nice melancholic undertone. It's important to remember that nearly two centuries have passed for the Doctor, so we can only imagine what he's been up to in that time; when he learned about Lake Silencio and how long he's been on his farewell tour. That final farewell of his is so wonderful and sombre. He was the Doctor, and he was there to help. Now, some tidbits: Cybermats appeared in Classic Who, especially during the Second Doctor era. The Doctor's line, "You redecorated. I don't like it," is a quote from the Second Doctor from when he saw the Third Doctor's TARDIS in the multi-Doctor story, The Three Doctors. The kindly shop assistant who thought the Doctor and Craig were a couple was played by Linda Baron, who'd previously appeared in a First Doctor story and a Fifth Doctor story. Also, I don't think it's ever directly acknowledged, but I'm pretty sure that wither this episode or A Good Man Goes to War would mark the New Who debut of the classic Cybermen, rather than the parallel Earth versions. Oh and as for Amy, I always thought she'd just become a successful model, but I suppose that marketing does have a lot of inside references for her not to have had some sort of creative input. Overall, it was nice to see Craig and the Cybermen again and for the Doctor to get a final bit of fun before facing his destiny. That ending really gets you good, doesn't it? I can't wait to see what you think of the finale.

I kinda forgot just how many 'filler' episodes there were before the finale... They all told important substories... but were more or less standalone miniepisodes. But I guess the longer the wait, the bigger the reward!!! Btw can I say: I love you reactions. I truely mean it!!! I am on the spectrum and have trouble empathizing with emotions a lot. But you are not shy to show these emotions clearly, so I can actually feel what you are going through and it is a joy and a (good) pain! I have tried watching other reactors to doctor who but none are this expressive and I find myself stopping before long because I simply can't connect! Don't lose that! And once you watch something I have watched as well, I will be there following you along as well :) Can't wait for your next episode(s?)

Hello, Jules. 💜 That look of pleased expectation, for another Doctor Who episode, makes a great opening shot - 0:00 - as always, nice casual blending with your set’s background tones. “Fantastic. They’re back again?” It was around this episode that a number of fans had the exact same response - some felt the Cybermen were appearing too often, of late. The “only affects underdeveloped brains” joke, is one of my favorites from the newer Doctor Who episodes. 🤣 And the “pep” talk, the Doctor gives to little Stormageddon - 12:56 - is also very funny, true, but funny. 😅 Excellent recalls, and perception, throughout this one, Jules. The electricity sparks, looking like the crack, Amy - the face of a new perfume, Petrichor. The smell of dust after the rain, and then the impending doom of the blue envelops, with the hat, and others. Well done - remembered and noticed! 🥰 This thing, which Doctor Who does so well - a joyous, very funny story, even with the inherent danger, and then the slow building dread of something wicked this way comes, is absolutely, always, well done, as it is here. 😍 The end piece. The singing, Madame Kovarian, the fear and confusion for River Song, the Silence, as the ending ties to various previous points in time. Quite an exquisite build-up I was happy to hear your thoughts, in the Outro, as to how the blame can certainly be shared, and doesn’t deserve to be fully placed on the Doctor’s shoulders. Amy, a good bit like Rose before her, often does exactly what she wants, when she wants, and how she wants. Unfortunately she often takes on no real responsibility for the outcomes. Have a great day, Jules. 💜🤗💜 Enjoy your time. Have another coffee, some treat or other. Relax and have a wonderful time. 😉😊

Ahh Tom 💜😊 what a delightfully fun episode! It was wonderful to see Craig again, and I don't care one little jot that he's not popular 🤣 I enjoy him and the Doctor together SO very much. They work just so well, and it makes me feel all sorts of lovely positive feelings! The end piece was so well done, if a heartbreaking reminder of what is to come. I loved seeing the hat, the invitations... I'd almost forgotten about what awaits us at the lake but this reminded us very well. It feels like Buffy writing - let's have a fun romp, make the audience laugh and then BAM! Get them at the end 😭 You are so right about Amy! Whilst I wish I had some of her bravado, it does seem to land her in hot water at times. It seems she needs Rory as much as the Doctor needs his companions. Thank you, as always, Dear Tom. A coffee calls soon, and tonight is my cleaning night where I catch up on everything. Afterwards, Sims and Relaxation 🥰 I wish you the same - maybe without the cleaning though 😄💜

6:40 Possible in-joke here. Years ago I heard the Vulcan Neck Pinch was actually stolen from Doctor Who. Apparently the script originally said "Spock sneaks around the corner and hits the man on the head very hard" and Leonard Nimoy said "isn't mr Spock supposed to be very intelligent? Can't I do something different to incapacitate him? I saw this show called Doctor Who the other night and he just grabbed the man something like this and he fell down..." At least that's what I heard.

The one thing I don't really like about the episode is how they defeat the Cybermen. I'm not a hater of "He won with the power of love" thing in stories in general, but it's kinda how they resolved the previous episode with Craig, so it feels a bit repetitive. But more importantly, it kinda defeats the theme of the Cybermen. The whole point of those enemies is that they are a cautionary tale, they are a representation of what happens when you let the fear of suffering and mortality make you try to become emotionless and immortal, basically. The point is that they will suppress your emotions, because they think that's what the evolution of humanity should be, they think that's what's good for you. And once it's done, there's no turning back. That's the whole threat that the Cybermen pose. If you can just cancel a conversion with The Power of Love™, then... what's even the point of those enemies, thematically? Are they even a threat anymore? But other than that, I still like this episode. I just think it's a bit sad that we didn't get a good ol' two-parter finale.

@nightshade724018 сағат бұрын
Spoiler free: the truth is that the Doctor isn't the one who causes the danger. Watch every episode where a companion was in danger or a planet was in danger or someone was in danger and take note of the choices they made that led them to be there. Craig made the choice to put his life in danger to help the doctor when he really didn't have to. Amy made the choice of buttons before asking and Rory made the choice to go on ahead. I would never leave a partner alone in a strange situation, even for something as simple as they've forgotten something and need to go back for it. I think the Doctor is feeling the words of the lady at the end, about how River was taken and moulded because the Doctor exists and strength invites challenge. It wasn't the Doctor's fault, it was the fault of the lady to act on her fear. This whole show is about the human condition and one of the elements of the human condition is how we respond to fear, usually by trying to kill whatever scared us. Be it spiders, other humans or aliens. We make the choices that either save us or doom us and the Doctor is more often the cure to the stupidity of the reaction of the human condition but more often he isn't successful because he's not a god and weak and tiny as humans might be, they have a power to create terrible tragedy, even when a better example or option is offered. Remember what the Doctor said to Harriet Jones when those aliens came down during the Christmas invasion and used blood magic to try to blackmail humanity and Harriet had the ship destroyed after the Doctor let them go? He said "I should have told them to run, as fast as they can. Run and hide, because the monsters are coming- the human race." That's the human condition, we see it through history and through the history of media and how monstrous fear can make someone. That's why the Doctor doesn't really put anyone in danger. Humans are more than capable of that on their own.
