As a Doctor Who theme this is great. As the War Doctor's theme, I'm not so sure yet. But I'm sure this will grow on me. My initial thoughts are that this theme would have suited a series featuring the Curator more than the War Doctor. I think the "Doctor Who Opening: No More" by Dalekchris Productions suits the War Doctor better.

The Great Curator theme would be a 1 minute symphony, a life seen through misty eyes. Whimsical, then scary, sad, and finally hearts-breakingly beautiful. The Doctor Who theme as a little story unto itself, fully orchestrated...hey, I can dream, can't I? ;)

Honestly, this may be an unpopular opinion... but really I think Big Finish should have retired the War Doctor as a character, out of respect for Hurt. They did the same for Maggie Stables, retiring the character of Evelyn Smythe in her honor (even going as far as to actually _cancel_ her "departure" story from the 6th Doctor, choosing to let it remain an event that happened offscreen), so I don't think it would have been that wild to do the same for Hurt. In general, I just think it's disrespectful to recast past Doctors when their actors have died if it's not absolutely necessary for them to make an appearance. Heck, I even dislike it when they do that with William Harntell, like, I think each incarnation should just remain in the hands of whoever played that incarnation (and if they die, that incarnation is retired). Like, I get that they _have_ to do that with 1, since you can't just NOT include at least a reference to him in anniversary specials and such, but beyond that I don't really like that it's now such a precedent they've now also done it with 2, 3, the War Doctor, 11, and 12 as well.

Not a fan of this theme. As a standalone theme it's great but like the music of the late 80s it starts to become unrecognizable as the Doctor Who theme tune.

By this point in the Time War, this incarnation had become unrecognizable as the Doctor, so I think making this vastly different from the main theme was the point. Plus, this isn't a theme for the main series so it doesn't really matter if it's different.

Johnny Kilroy I get what they were trying to do but for me it doesent have the essential Doctor Who quality which I think it should, it's still Doctor Who regardless of its not part of the main show.

It's not a ripoff, it's more like a combination of the two. Like it was inspired by them.

Well, that's the idea, see, because the War Doctor comes in-between the Eighth Doctor and the revived series, so it makes sense that his theme song would be a hybrid form. For the same reasons, his costume is halfway between McGann and Eccleston, and his TARDIS interior has the walls of a classic-style console room but the pillars of the Eccleston/Tennant version.
