Many time lords choose a name when they venture out into the universe with their TARDIS, a name that often represents who they are or what they want to achieve. The Doctor essentially wants to heal the universe. The Master wants to rule the universe. They are both old friends to some extent but they are also rivals. There are also others like The Corsair or The Rani.

Box opening for cracking packs only was never a way I engaged with magic personally but I very much enjoy watching this kind of video! I have been on hiatus from Mtg. But I still watch nearly every goldfish video and I for one would take a Collector Box opening video every set.

In case no one in the comments said it, Time Lords have a unique racial quirk where, when they would die, they regenerate almost as an entirely different person, but with the memories of their previous incarnations. The Doctor is one Time Lord and each Doctor is in a different phase of their life, each with a different face and personality. The Master is a Time Lord in much the same way, but instead of being ordered like the Doctor's incarnations, they're just... "The Master". There are some other Time Lords in the set (Rassilon, Romana, Susan Foreman, etc.), but there's no connective tissue between them like there are between the Doctors and the Masters. These cards are *rich* with Who lore, both blatant and obscure.

The problem with collector booster-only sets is that commons/uncommons are the real rares since you only get a couple per pack.

is there really any meaning to being a rare card printed in a precon? i’ve heard people get excited about how many rares are in these decks, but the cards are not actually rare, they are just as available as every other card in the deck

That's because people are easily entertained. The reality is most of the cards won't hold squat for value no matter what rarity they are.

Yes the Second Card of every pack will always be a Doctor and can be traditional or Surge Foil. Don’t think it can be extended art though. The final non token card is always a Foil Showcase but the serialised card will only be traditional, not surge foil.

So, brief explanation of the other Time Lords. Time Lord is a subset of the Gallifreyan race, the alien species that the Doctor belongs to. They almost all have TARDISes, and as such, they can all travel through time. They also can regenerate, just like the Doctor, which is why there's multiple versions of The Master. The Master is basically an "evil" Time Lord, a rival of The Doctor.
