Exactly. Love is when the welfare and wellbeing of another is so important that it really doesn't matter what they do. They can betray you, they can break your heart, but you still love them. It doesn't matter how much it hurts, you still love them. Obviously, if such a bond is repeatedly abused by someone with no respect for it, love may dwindle or die, but no single action can destroy true and unconditional love.

Green Whovian. good point. but in those situations the Master hurt/killed others and didn't directly impact the Doctor. The Doctor also doesn't have the same level of trust with the Master like he had with Clara. His relationship with the Master is categorically different than his relationship with Clara. Clara is someone he trusted who betrayed him personally. That's like if you're girlfriend/boyfriend competely betrayed and sabotaged you in the most selfish way possible. That's different than if he/she did something to a random stranger. i"m not saying one is better or worse than the other act, but i'm saying that one can be felt more personally and have a deeper sting than the other.

From season 9 the chapters 2 (although to understand it you have to see the 1) the 3 and the 4 (those ofthe submarine base,) the 5 (the one of the vikings) the 7 and the 8 (the invasion zygon) and all from the 10 (the subject is the legendary hybrid).

I was like, she deserves that. Finally we're gonna be rid of her, good riddance. It would also explain why the TARDIS doesn't like her. It would have been complete and perfect. Showing that some of the Doctor's companions can turn out so bad that they get thrown out is great writting. But having the Doctor keeping her around, and complying to her wish, and going to a place he can't possibly go, because he doesn't know anything about that place, is terrible writting. And it ruins the Doctor's character to me. Yes the Doctor can be kind and understanding. But he also is a Time Lord. He is the very last Time Lord. Protecting the laws of Time is his job. You betray him the way she tries, and you prove your unworthy of traveling in the TARDIS. The real Doctor (look at his previous selves) would have kicked her out.

It's perfectly in line with all versions of his character. He's forgiving. He also went to the place he can't ever go for Jenny and the Victorian gang his own death place. He has no problems breaking the laws of time for people he loves. Literary this was exactly what the doctor would do and it's not bad writing. The egg as the moon was bad writing

@Seemlypseudonym 6 жыл бұрын
I think the Doctor's calculation here is obvious: he doesn't blame Clara for what she did because in the end there were no real consequences (unlike Rose and Amy, who were both almost excluded from the TARDIS previously). What the sequence with the sleep patch did was show the Doctor the extent of Clara's trauma in light of Danny's death and the impossible situation he had to deal with: if he wants Clara to continue to travel with him, then he has to make some effort to bring Danny back from the dead, because otherwise his inaction would hover like a black cloud over all their future adventures - every world saved, every wrong righted, every incredible, impossible thing the Doctor does would be marred by the same question: "You can do all that but you couldn't save the love of my life?" So he has to go down this rabbit hole with her and ride out her grief in the hope that he might exhaust her desperation and disabuse her of the belief that he can do anything, so that she can finally accept Danny's death and begin to heal.

Of course. I'm not one for biblical verse normally but that is in essence what Paul's letter to the Corinthians says as well. Love is patient. Love doesn't keep score. It's not about tit for tat. Not true love anyway. True love is being hurt by someone, not accepting the act which is wrong, but still loving the person behind it anyway. True love is letting someone go you love very much because you can see it's in their interest. For their growth. While holding in to them though it'd hurt less would be selfish. True love encompasses all because it has no conditions. It just is. And always will be. Here I am. Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand is where I fall. Naysayers may call it foolish or naive but true love cares not for these things. It carries on and enjoins. Which in itself is strength. This is the greatest lesson we can take from the Doctor. You can get angry, you can challenge people, push people to be and so better but start from love first and communication. Only if it's not reciprocated or bad continues to be propagated by the other party do you have to shut it down. Not because you don't love but because you do. To save the ones worth saving as proven by themselves. Whew that ended up being longer than expected sorry guys.

This moment signifies for me that Peter Capaldi IS the doctor. It is perfectly in line with his character. Anybody remember the S1 Episode Fathers day? Moffat showed great understanding of character in this scene.

This level of compassion is beyond me! I cannot even dream of being so caring instead of vengeful when someone betrays me. It makes me so happy that the Doctor is always a teacher to viewers, the exact reason why the show was created. He accepts all beings as they are, and tries to help them. He serves justice when required and is full of compassion. These are such beautiful qualities one can possess in this dark century where people are mostly anything but this. This really is just something else. Thank you Doctor!

I always thought through each regeneration “this is my Doctor, no this is my Doctor”. But I am absolutely certain now, that 12 is my Doctor. Peter Capaldi plays him so well, he makes a 1200 year old man with experience, love and loss believable. He’s fun yet can be serious. He’s just like the purest incarnation of the Doctor, with no mask on and showing his true self. 11 was the fun and quirky Doctor, 10 was the almost serious but allowed to enjoy himself Doctor, 9 was the hopeful and optimistic Doctor, the Doctor that was allowed to rest from war but could relax knowing he could help, I won’t go into the rest.

This line made the Capaldi doctor great. Of course this is exactly what an immortal being would say and feel. To paraphrase Anne Rice, "What could love turn into if you had an eternity to nourish it?" The doctor loved and was in love with Clara. And in a reverse of most doctor / companion stories, harkening to the earlier ones, Clara loved the doctor but she wasn't IN love with him. Great great scene.

It’s interesting to me how polarized the comments are for this scene. There are the people who dislike 12 and just think this is another bad scene (so then... why are they watching a video of it... ah whatever). There are the ones who don’t like Clara, and don’t understand how the Doctor can forgive her betrayal for no clear reason. And there are the Clara supporters who see this scene as 12 finding his... humanity, if you will, and see Clara’s earlier actions as a desperate response to the traumatic experience of listening to the man she loved die senselessly in a car crash. And then of course the people who are here because of “the thing with the eyes” and that is valid.

Clara and Twelve has an incredibly deep friendship, something that couldn’t have been dismissed for one mistake she made. They’ve been making them for years. In Clara’s eyes Twelve betrayed her in the episode with the moon (I can’t remember what season) Their friendship can withstand that. And also, though I do not condone Clara’s actions, she was distraught, she was desperate to cling on to the last bit of hope she had to save Danny. Twelve recognised the loss, the desperation, and the love. Personally I think Danny was the person who kept Clara grounded, you see her ego get the better of her in her last season. That’s just my opinion though.
