It's a noted element of the show, both classic and revived, that you don't *have* to know the greater series mythology to enjoy most episodes, so it's easy to get started watching the series without slogging all the way back to the beginning, but there are those occasional little tidbits for those who know the larger story.
@Wannabe_Baby3 жыл бұрын
@@AlanCanon2222 Yeah. For the most part, I actually haven't liked a lot of those references during the Chibnall era because there are so many little mentions that are ONLY there just for the sake of it. But I like this one because it actually adds to the scene and it fits the time frame.
@AlanCanon22223 жыл бұрын
@@Wannabe_Baby I really do get the criticism of the Chibnall era. I have focused on enjoying how very hard the cast have worked with what's been written for them (I have been a small-time, small-town community theater stage technician and actor, so I've seen a lot of rehearsals). Hopefully the series will continue to new heights under a fresh crew. Who knows, maybe there will be aspects of 13's run that are appreciated by fans down the line. Personally, one attraction to the series for me is how very many creative people have had a chance to have a go at the story. I'm cool with having favorite and less favorites eras in a show that's almost 60 years old.

After being so excited by the last episode, this one, for me, this was the point where Flux really started to nosedive for me. This was a rambling, overstuffed mess; the whole reveal of Tecteun being the true mastermind behind everything fell flat since she has only been seen and talked about very briefly before, and we're meant to take this as a big reveal when we've hardly even knew her and she gets immediately killed off at the end. It could've been either the Grand Serpent, the Master, Davros & the Daleks or both Swarm & Azure as the masterminds behind the Flux and it wouldn't have made any difference. I do think the whole Doctor's backstory arc really dragged the whole series down. Dan, Yaz and Jericho essentially went on a wild goose for four years until Williamson picked them up, and the whole Vinder/Bel sidestory now feels as it's just going on and on at this stage. With so, so much going on, it was really hard to enjoy, and, oh boy, it did not get better with the next episode.

Think the doctor turning into an angel to just turn back at the start of the next episode explained away a lame form of instant transport. Great cliffhanger but like everything chibnal does just kinda w/e tbh almost a moffat kinda BS move where he loves to just nonsensically cheat his way out of situations. chibnal takes the "ill explain later" meme to a whole new level
@bobblebardsley3 жыл бұрын
Honestly that cliffhanger was so good I'm willing to forgive it. Chibnall writes Doctor Who like the classic era when cliffhangers were very often resolved in the first 1-2 minutes of the next episode. It's a bit odd nowadays when a lot of series are watched as 'box sets' but when you have to wait a week for the next episode, it's more about the cliffhanger than it is about the way it's resolved. Although I can totally understand why people felt like there wasn't enough (or really any) pay-off after that, and I'm not sure I'm the biggest fan of how Flux talks about 'Angel forms' like it is just a thing you can do to someone without them actually ever being a Weeping Angel.
@booradley88953 жыл бұрын

I still refuse to acknowledge this new backstory making the Doctor be from another universe rather than a Gallifreyan, who brought regeneration to the Time Lords. Total BS. And I don't mind it, I mean, can you expect a 60 year old show, produced by dozens of different teams, to have a continuous cannon?
@potterpenguin72853 жыл бұрын
@MultiFan exactly and I don't even mind that. It was never intended as a giant continuous project. And in the end it's just that quirky British sci-fi show passed on from generation to generation and that may not always have the best scripts or the best looking Cinematography or CGI, but it has (at weird as it may sound) personality and character and that's why I love it. I'm very surprised you didn't catch The Brigadier's voice in the hall way while The Grant Serpent and the General were walking down the stairs talking. I really enjoyed the Flux story but the way it's written is just rubbish the Bel and Vinder part is just holding the story and how did Yaz, Dan and Jericho manage to travel what did they use for money ? That made no sense also because of Yaz's Indian heritage especially for 1904 perspective she would had to have put up with alot of racist abuse because of people's attitudes of that time. It was nice to see Kate Lethbridge-Stewart back but she had a limited role in this.

The Seventh Doctor said "I am so much more than just another time lord." That was over 30 years ago. And "A traveller beyond time." The Doctor has always been more - "more than just a secret", etc. This isn't new. The whole point is not knowing, but at various points the Doctor has known there is more in their history and it's been used in stories now for decades - just not in the TV show since the 2005 revival. As for other points - as long as Yaz was in male company she would have been safe and accepted (out of respect for the white men mostly) - plus she was in countries where brown skin wasn't so odd. As for money - they were in the past for three years. They may have worked for two of them. I know it's all imperfect but I think you're overthinking a little and I hope you can enjoy it more in the episodes and eras to come. :-)
