Just finished watching. I had to post another comment to compliment you Brendan on a fabulous discussion and a great panel. I could watch Retro Doc anytime and love his dry humour. Lovely to see Daryl onboard I'm excitedly awaiting his Calendar delivery. I'm not so familiar with the other panelists but found them informative and entertaining. Your show is a must see for any Doctor Who fan and is an entertaining and thoughtful podcast. I look forward to your Detox shows returning ( in the Australia friendly timeslot). 3.30 am was too early for this old Boomer although with the recent introduction of Daylight Saving here so the time gap is closing so I will have to set my alarm so I can join the thread . Once again welcome back my friend 👍

Great show. Many thanks, Brendan, Gary, Daryl, Jeremy and Coecludd. I do wonder if the BBC would ever allow Doctor Who to be scary again. It would most certainly make it a big hit, if they were to use some of Daryl's designs and utilized them accordingly. The kids would love it, if the show were to return to tea-time horror. But I don't think it would occur to the BBC that Doctor Who could ever be like that. To the BBC, Doctor Who is just far too safe, too jokey and silly, too fun and frothy. I don't think the people at the BBC know that Doctor Who could be or ever has been anything else. Sadly.

Yes they are too focussed on humour, gimmicks and light tone

Thank you Brendan & panel for an excellent discussion! The best Dr Who YTube channel and community in the whoniverse! JNT said it best - no hanky panky in the Tardis! This current Doctor is so far removed from the character established from 1963-89 he's now unrecognisable.

Absolutely entertaining from start to finish, and Daryl's drawings absolutely amazing Returning aliens, I know they appeared in two stories but everyone seems to forget about The Ogrons
@noblerees12 ай бұрын
Nearly mentioned them but I fear the NuWho team treat the Judoon like the new ogrons

Thanks Brendan and lovely panel. That was an uplifting show. Daryl's work is so important in that regard, especially given current circumstances. ❤

Daryl's Invasion Cyberman is one I'd definitely buy as a Character Options figure, particularly if the chest unit lit up like that (batteries not included). What a winner of a Christmas toy that would make!

So well realised by Daryl

Daryl Joyce should put together a DR WHO reboot bible and pitch. His alien and robot designs are far better than what the BBC are giving fans. Great Monster mash.

Daryl is such a visionary artist. An asset to this fandom. I'd dearly love to get his Illustrated Jorney book, but it's so hard to get now. The next book he makes I am LEAPING on.

Surely Ncuti's would be the Doctor the Cybermen would least want to face. Not only does he wear gold rings, but he's the Doctor most likely to habitually carry a bottle of nail varnish remover.

The Silurians, in Morden Who are crap and I would rather see them as they was in the 70s In fact I think morden ones look more Dragian looking. Thankfully the Sea Devils have kept there appearance throughout. Especially into New Who. (for now). As for Davros if going have him with legs that's when I will call it a day in watching DrWho.

Other shows don't carry on like this if this was a CW/WB tv series ok might have a break during filming and production but least they made 23 episodes a season to compare any New Who since 2005 now Doctor who got 14 episodes jump 2023 to now its taken 18 months for only 8 or 9 if included Christmas special pathetic. Technically if we had no breaks or gaps between the [insert what you want] Season/series New Who be actually on series 23 or 60 of was no gaps after McCoys Doctor.

Given that there is no likelihood of Gatwa's and Davies' association coming to an end whilst the former remains in the role, does it really matter who is to blame for his ostensibly poor performance? If the BBC are beginning to realise that an essential first step for the salvation of televised Doctor Who might be to part company with Disney, then might an essential second step be the departure of both the lead actor and showrunner? Surely Davies has realised, by now, that Graham Norton being anywhere near a single aspect of Doctor Who is as ill-judged as can be?! For practically all of his interviews and appearances, I have no expectation of Gatwa but for him to be as far removed from an actor suited to play the Doctor as possible; in this regard, he never disappoints, his appearance on Graham Norton being no exception. Whilst by no means sharing the opinion, I can stretch a point and sympathise with anyone who feels Andrew Cartmel may have went too far with his narrative; the important thing to remember, however, is that he ensured that never once did the heightened mystique supplant any of the character's core elements. I greatly admire Paul McGann, his eighth Doctor and, regarding the character's asexuality, this recent stance he's taken; nonetheless, the provenance for a Doctor gratuitously kissing anyone can always be traced squarely to that God-awful TV movie! Many thanks, Brendan, Daryl, Gary, Jeremy and Michael for a typically engaging, invaluable debate. All the best for now. Paul

Thanks for the wonderful comments, Paul. IMO so many things are being done on the production/publicity side that would spell doom for a production in normal times, but these days there are so many machinations and agendas in play that it's hard to predict what will happen.

@@gar535 I couldn't agree more, Gary. I'm actually hoping for another joint venture from BBC, Bad Wolf and Disney; namely, the behind-the-scenes drama, explaining the true purpose of these manifold, counterintuitive decisions. Now that would be a veritable ratings winner! Cheers.
