I doubt there is a single Doctor Who fan that does not adore Wilfred. I have never known any character on TV who’s presence is enough to bring tears of love to the viewer’s eyes.

I think Martha's advice was totally appropriate. Tell your family. Let them know what's going on. Remember what happened to Rose when she did not tell anyone? She was gone for a year and Micky was blamed for her disappearance. 😐
@ashleymcgowan84215 жыл бұрын
I think Martha’s approach makes sense if you remember how she joined the Doctor and how she ended up. She did the same as Rose, jumped right in with him, feet first without hesitation. But she ended up secretly traveling ALONE around the world for a YEAR, with her whole family trapped as hostages and working at the whims of an all-powerful psychopath, not knowing what the endgame would be. Any of her family could have been killed during that time, AND at the end of the fix they all were the only humans that remembered that it all happened! What kind of messed up PTSD would that give your whole family, and no one really to work through it with except each other?? I think her warning makes sense, and remember they are still in the middle of a crisis, so she’s trying to fit the warning in amongst her duties to Unit- just a quick “Hey, does your family know where you are? Mine was manipulated by the Prime Ministers people and captured and held hostage for a year and still have recurring problems from it.” Is a tough sell but I think she summarized it well by simply advising that it’s not all fun and games, and Donna should be sure her family knows exactly what is happening. Martha’s story/her family’s story is incredibly tragic to me, when you consider everything that happens to them all.

Great point. Martha suffered the most from her decision to be with the doctor. He also cared the least for her so her sacrifices and trauma were mostly ignored by him.

The Atmos academy is based on the Heaven's Gate, a 1990s cult (with negative associations to Star Trek) who believed that an alien spaceship was attached to Comet Hale Bopp and committed mass suicide once it left our solar system. Luke Rattigan is based on a 2008-era Elon Musk, a genius whose ideas at the time were deemed too ludicrous to be understood by others, therefore was unable to connect with society and therefore became quite douchey to others. He does remind me of my younger self.

Martha spent a year walking the earth in a post apocalyptic hell because of her travels with the Doctor. Even though she could have found a better way to word it, given her experience I cut her some slack. She's seen some of the worst. But she did come across a bit forward considering her and Donna hadn't had time to build up any trust between them. Sarah Jane handled it much better with Rose.

What I love about this story is that it was foretold in the first episode of the series. When the taxi runs over the fat babies there is a Atmos sticker in the corner of the window. This is why Russell T Davies was so good at his role. Because he added small details in that all add up. I miss this era of Who.

The fact that the Doctor has to tell Martha not to start a fight implies that Martha is the one most likely to start an fight there… and there’s Donna Noble, who could shout the world down, in the vicinity. And, no matter how smart Luke Ratigan may be, the Doctor is *the* biggest swat in the room.

This was the mediocre two parter of series 4 but it's still decent and enjoyable. It's great to see the Sontarans back in New Who, not to mention Martha making a return - and taking the Doctor to task over his mistrust of the military/guns.

TBH I think your reaction to Marthas conversation with the Doctor has a very female mindset to it. I just mean that to me, a guy, this is how guys would talk to each other. Which is weird since the episode was written by Helen Raynor a woman. But it could be a part that Russell, or another writer punched up.
