I didn’t enjoy how it was butchered in the editing it ripped the heart and soul out of the story, the color was fine but i thought the music was intrusive & i half expected Nick Briggs redub the Daleks voices. I'll stick with the B&W 7 part original. A excellent spot on review that perfectly summed up this release 👍

Only hope is they see it as an experimental release, and change the format moving forward. Otherwise, I feel the sales will tank. We’ll see.

@@_TJProductions Can you imagine a 70 minute color release of The War Games that would be awful. Your review was spot on 👍

I liked it. The Dalek City Model shots were stunning, and Ibloved how vibrant everything was. But in the future they need to pick a shorter serial, and if they're gonna redesign the music, they should try to make it sound from that era. I loved the soundtrack of Daleks In Colour, but it is too modern.

in positive news just come back from the bfi after seeing the celestial toy maker and i thoroughly enjoyed it. Animation actually worked for me after my doubts only problems for me were the mouth movements not quite syncing what they were saying or their tone. Some great new additions that I wont spoil and don’t detract from the story like they have in the past. Also spot on review me and my dad had to turn this off it was like it was mocking the original

Appreciate sharing your input with the Celestial Toymaker animation, despite having the same doubts. Have an open mind about it. Thanks for the input and not detailing spoilers. 👍

I own the original Daleks in the Beginnings boxset, I’m not interested in a butchered version of a classic story. I watched the original as a kid and loved it. For me, I’ll stick with the original.

I pre-ordered this as soon as it became available, much excitement. Then I watched on iPlayer. Pre order cancelled. It wasn’t utterly horrible I found the edit interesting, the colourisation was “meh”, I’ve seen numerous better examples on KZbin. What tipped me over the edge was the “incidental” music, once i heard 80s style drumbeats I switched off. Very disappointed in Mark Ayres. As a whole I felt it didn’t respect the original at all. If the aim was to show how much better “old” Doctor Who could be in this day they failed abysmally. I’ll take the slower 7 ep original any day.

A very interesting video which I thank you for posting. Sci-Fi fans are an interesting bunch when it comes to technology. So many tend to overuse it and forget restraint. Simply because new technologies develop doesn't automatically mean they should be applied to all things prior. Viewers often also forget that limitations of the past often lead to greater creativity and finer work. I have not watched this DVD yet and don't know if I will. The original was great. This reminds me of so much with photography and film in general. Producers seem to think the more effects they can throw into the mixture the better the product. ‘Spectacular’ seems to always be a huge intention. But in reality, as beautiful as an environment can be it never looks like what we see in film. I never thought I would think this, but quarries have their place especially in DW. They look like a quarry, but the fact remains a quarry is REAL. This video review was interesting. Cheers.

I have no problem with colorizing black and white episodes. That said, I'd rather see them put the time and effort into reconstruction of lost episodes.
@george496328 ай бұрын
I think cutting it down to 2 hours rather than 75minutes and airing it as a two-parter would have served the originally better. That's still a streamlining of approx 1.5hours, which if you are targeting modern audience without much attention span you probably want to do, while allowing a little more time to immerse the audience in the environment

Great video, personally to me it just seemed like there is a lot of colour bleed on it and blurry video and not a good as what they could have done. If they do recolour more episodes I hope they are done a lot better. the original black & white episodes are always the best 🙂

@@_TJProductionsHaving now seen your video, I believe you were too harsh. Your language is sometimes too aggressive, despite your admission that your review is subjective. @_TJProductions Admittedly, I do feel rather hurt and disappointed on behalf of all the people who invested their time and skills in this. It's one thing to offer constructive, articulate criticism, and another to use such inflammatory language. Watch it back and ask yourself if you're being supportive. It's not your opinion, but the way you express it that I find irritating.

I think the colouring is awful, none of it looks natural, it’s too vibrant and over saturated. The edit was butchered and the new score was completely out of place, it felt like 80s music put over a 60s story at times mixed in with a bit of new series music and a tiny bit of the original score. If you want to see a concise version of The Daleks in colour done properly just watch Dr Who and The Daleks, it does a much better job at cutting the the story down, this version was just confusing and irritating to watch.

Brother.. what are you yapping about? What it needed was more today’s Murray gold score to make it feel more epic and perhaps trim it down to 45 minutes.
@MuchWhittering8 ай бұрын
I have nothing particularly bad to say about the colourisation itself. But the edit? The gaudy music? Entire scenes being reduced to mere seconds so it becomes impossible to follow? No thanks. I watched it on BBC Four on broadcast, and frankly I was glad when it was over.
@DJGallifrey8 ай бұрын
A better idea would be been to colorize it and edit it into a movie length version with the added features. I think the "target demographic" would be liked it better. Hell, the Peter Cushing version of the story is better than this edited monstrosity .

@sirdaemon53388 ай бұрын
What the BBC did was ruin a classic story. The music change was annoying and unnecessary far to loud and instead was overbearing and out of style for the era of the programme. They cut out essential parts yet continually repeated sections, I guess they never heard of just rewatching or rewinding. I have no problem with them colourising a story, I think its a great idea, I don't mind them editing out mistakes. But they should not destroy the essence of the originals. They should just stick to adding colour and nothing else. I can't believe anyone liked what they did, it was disgusting and quite frankly disrespectful. I have the originals and will stick with those having watched the colourised one on Iplayer.
