MORE ABOUT DOCTOR WHO:
The Davies era is also the first in which Doctor Who finally had a successful spin-off - and not one but two. Torchwood (the name is an anagram for “Doctor Who”) debuted in late 2006, after the extraterrestrial-handling agency was used in the revived Doctor Who‘s second series. The series, which might be loosely considered a more mature version of The X-Files, carried the Doctor Who universe into more explicit content than ever before. Just over two months later, The Sarah Jane Adventures debuted in a special, with a regular series following later in 2007. It took the franchise in the opposite direction, offering kid-friendly fare starring fans’ favorite companion from the Doctor’s history.
Production on Moffat's time in charge of Doctor Who began in July 2009.As executive producer and lead writer, he was significantly involved in casting both Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and Peter Capaldi as the Twelfth Doctor. As Doctor Who showrunner, Moffat won another Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short Form for writing the two-part story "The Pandorica Opens" and "The Big Bang" (both 2010).
Before taking over from Steven Moffat, Chibnall had written several episodes of Doctor Who, from series 3 in 2007 to series 7 in 2012. He was also the effective head writer of series 1 and 2 of Torchwood from 2006-08, after becoming co-producer of those first two series. This status made him a regular interviewee on Torchwood Declassified. He has also made four appearances on Doctor Who Confidential.
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC since November 23rd, 1963. The programme depicts the adventures of a Time Lord called "The Doctor", an extraterrestrial being, appearing to be human. The Doctor explores the universe in a time-travelling space ship called the TARDIS. Its exterior appears as a blue British metropolitan police box, which was a common sight in Britain in the 1960’s when the series first aired. Accompanied by a number of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes like the Daleks and Cybermen while working to save civilisations and save people in need.
Beginning with William Hartnell, over fifteen actors have headlined the series as the Doctor. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show with the concept of regeneration into a new incarnation and body, a plot device in which a Timelord "transforms" into a new body when the current one is too badly harmed to heal normally.
Ncuti Gatwa had previously been announced as Jodie Whittaker's successor after David Tennant reprises his role as the doctor in the 60th anniversary specials as the programme's lead, and many reports stated he would play the Fourteenth Doctor and that Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor would regenerate into an incarnation portrayed by Gatwa. Upon Jodie Whittaker's final appearance as the character in The Power Of The Doctor, she instead regenerated into a form similar to the Tenth Doctor. This character, portrayed by Tennant, was confirmed to be the Fourteenth Doctor, with later clarification that Ncuti Gatwa would actually portray the Fifteenth Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa’s 15th doctor has also had his companion announced as Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday live on Children In Need.
On 24 September 2021, the BBC announced Russell T Davies would return to Doctor Who as showrunner, after having previously acted as showrunner from 2005-2010 for the Ninth and Tenth Doctors. He will succeed Chibnall for the show's 60th anniversary in 2023 and beyond. Davies will be joined by the Bad Wolf production company, which was founded by former Doctor Who executive producer Julie Gardner and former BBC head of drama Jane Tranter. In October 2021, it was announced that Sony would acquire a majority of Bad Wolf. Bad Wolf also took over creative control of Doctor Who beginning with the specials, allowing the BBC to focus on establishing Doctor Who as a global brand. The new era of Doctor Who is being labelled as RTD2 as it is Russel’s second era of Doctor Who.

ohhh fun fact about the power of three. Guest actor Steven Berkoff, who played the villain of the episode was so uncooperative on set that he basically ruined the third act. The crew had to scrounge together the tiny amount of usable footage from the shoot and write up a new ending. Hence why the conclusion of the episode is such dogshit 😭

I haven't finished her story yet (literally just got to Capaldi) but I absolutely love her, I love the concept of 2 time travelers who meet out of order I didn't really feel much during the library episode since we barely knew River however once we got around to their first kiss and River's realization that that'll be the last kiss they'll ever have just hit so hard Then to top it all off I've never been a big fan of how pacifist all the characters are so I love that River shows up and is absolutely willing to murder anyone who gets in her way Also I got a good chuckle out of how when she first regenerated into River she said that she was gonna slowly deage herself to mess with people, it both explained why she looked younger during her first appearance and showed how much of an agent of chaos she really is My only complaint with her is the fact that it feels like they could never decide whether they met out of order or in reverse order but that's minor and beyond that I basically only got positive things to say about her

i think i figured out why i enjoy rewatching these reviews so much. you make it extremely clear that you love this show, and that this video is a labor of love. especially in the rtd section, i just enjoy hearing someone being so enthusiastically dorky about a story they have a long history with. all of your little songs and funny voices and the times you laugh at yourself are left in, and i think that makes these videos even better than if you cut them out. it's an infectious energy and i look forward to any future review content you plan on making :)

I love your analysis of Midnight; that episode is so genuinely unsettling And I absolutely adore the concept of the Doctor and River Song’s relationship… the two travelers, falling in love through time, but eventually one meeting will be the time they don’t know you and you never see them again… ugh, it’s such a good concept but they RUINED IT. A story like that should be its own thing, not just braided into a show as complex and crazy as Doctor Who

I'm enjoying this video, but Im reaching the beginning of the 12th doctor's run and seeing some stuff I don't quite get. For example you complain about how Deep Breath is just "talking, talking..." when a few minutes ago you said you had missed this kind of natural, funny dialogue in the show. And I think you missed Clara and the Doctor's series 8 arc entirely, beautifully helped by eleven's phone call and capaldi's absolutely incredible acting afterwards. This arc and the emotional tension from it in the beginning of series eight is one of the reasons it's my absolute favorite of the show. Of course, I wouldn't be 3 hours into a video if I wasn't thoroughly enjoying it (so far in one sitting), so I applaud you for making this!

In defense of God Complex as to me it’s a perfect episode, season 6 does have a lot of fairy tail doctor stuff which God Complex finally ends. Literally called “God Complex”. One of my favorite things about Matt’s doctor is he has to confront how bringing along companions is disruptive to their lives. They put complete and total trust in him and he can’t save them all the time. The God Complex takes that faith in Amy and shatters it. She no longer views him that way bc he tells her why he can’t. That he’s not a fairy tail, just “mad man with a box”. He can’t save everyone and he doesn’t. He then drops them off and allows them to live their lives as they should bc he knows they have a life ahead of them that doesn’t have the doctor in it eventually. I think it’s beautifully written.

In defensive of Steven Moffat: I feel like his writing with one hand is kind of a bandwagon thing, its really not that bad. Especially between the Doctor and River, they're flipping married, when else would it be acceptable. The people who hate it are usually the same people who never let Tennant go and are just bitter. If you are going to give the doctor a romantic relationship (which i feel for the most part should be avoided entirely,) The closest they got to doing it the right way was actually with River Song. As intriguing as Rose/Doctor was, we always knew it was never really going to happen. Just cause it was popular at the time isn't a fair point. 12th doctor wasn't popular at the time and he turned out to be a banger. I always hear this grumpiness toward Moffat like horniness just doesn't exist, like bro humans can be freaky. Like Amy in the eleventh hour, terrible point. "oh he found an excuse to dress her up to be hot" Maybe that was the point! She's showing she's confident in herself/ using her looks to make some money idk! Point is its not that deep, the Horny Moffat thing is just too cliché I think people do it out of as place of "I'm a superior fan than you because I'm never horny". Not that deep. There is a difference between bad writing and a character doing something bad. Amy coming onto the doctor, not bad writing. This is a confused and immature young girl making a rash decision. OF COURSE it was cringe, I hated it too, but you cannot say it wasn't a believable thing for her to do in that instance. Look at the "I don't want to go" line. Great writing, but an immature and crybaby thing for 10 to say. But that was the point! The point was that 10 truly didn't want to go, his time was up too soon, it was an emotional outburst after feeling he'd been cheated out of his life. However he knew he'd be fine, hell regenerate and move on! He's not DYING dying. He was throwing a tantrum. Like i said, GREAT writing, a very much in character thing to do, I didn't love it, but it was a COMPLETELY understandable and realistic thing for him to do, which I feel can be applied in other places of the show, like Amy. Sure do hope the internet doesn't do that internet thing where they go "Oh this guy loves A, so he hates B." I love RTD too!! My favorite companion is Donna, and 12 and Clara are leagues better than 11 and Clara! I'm not a Moffat Meatrider okay I can and have noticed flaws and bad episodes. Just tired of the Moffat hate. Overall, incredible video. It probably took a lot of time, the script is impressive, and you are a really funny guy, I cracked up multiple times. Great points, I can tell you have a deep love for Doctor Who and I always love meeting a like minded fan. I also like the idea of Moffat fans and RTD fans grouping up to shit on chipeepees writing. Great stuff man this deserves way more views.

That's not even just me being an RTD fanboy, bc I really like the writing in the Matt Smith Era (mostly), just for some reason Moffat dropped the ball with Series 8 and 9 so much for me. Capaldi deserved sm better imo.

Martha and Micky ended up together because Martha was engaged to some random doctor!! He couldn’t be supportive of her life style. She was a high ranking member of UNIT. She was always going to be away risking her life and i understand how that relationship couldn’t work and why Mickey is infinitely more appropriate as a husband and partner. He’s used to that life. He doesn’t complain about Martha being out there fighting aliens and saving the world, he’s right there besides her.

3:46:54 "this is the level of dialogue we're getting, all for some cheap laughs" forgetting that Bill is allowed to be human and silly. Then immediately proceeds to make an Among Us joke that's deader than Chibnall's reputation. Bravo. I honestly couldn't disagree more with the majority of your Capaldi era takes.

Fun fact, Mickey's computer set up, when he hacks into UNIT and the Royal Navy is better than what one dude used to get into the CIA, FBI, and his local police delartment. So its actually the most believable part of the episode.

Only an hour in so far, I find it really interesting how we hardly agree on anything lol, for example "The Impossible Planet" two-parter is an easy perfect 10/10 top tier episode for me, and I love "Gridlock" and will forever argue that it's one of the best season 3 episodes because the traffic jam setting really works for me. Love your sense of humor btw :) and now I'll watch the remaining 4 hours, can't wait to hear your opinion on the Moffat seasons.

Definitely not alone in struggling to initially get into the Matt Smith era. After that sendoff Tenant got, I loathed those first few episodes of season 5, and straight up stopped watching Who for several years. Eventually I got over it and did somewhat enjoy Smith. I think my biggest peeve was just how often people referred to Smith's Doctor as "hot" when he was anything but when compared with Tenant.
