If there was doubt in anyone's mind, this episode pretty much confirmed it. RTD clearly loves Bridgerton. Oh, of course, that other thing.
Yes, Dr Ncuti takes Ruby back to early 19th Century England to cosplay Bridgerton, fights against cosplaying bird aliens, and fall in love with a dashing young man, who is TOTALLY not a Jack Harkness replacement. It's Pride Month everyone and this episode is clearly well-timed.

Just because the director took it in that direction doesn’t make it right. Timelords have different motivations and he sure as hell was aromantic towards his female companions no matter how hot they were. That was part of the charm. A guy who thinks with his head not with his cock. The idea that he would suddenly focus on his own personal needs and desires is rubbish. The Americans did it first with that stupid kiss when they did the movie and it was ridiculous then and ridiculous now. The whole romantic drama between him and rose was tedious. If we wanted to watch human drama we can tune into the endless crap you find on tv. His motivation was always altruistic. The current Dr Do seems to always focus on wanting to seduce every hot guy he meets, cries like he has the emotional maturity of a newt and allowed his flirting to delay him saving the people at the party from being shrivelled up like old prunes for some inter dimensional cosplay.

It does t make sense for A 900 year time lord to be obsessed with his own feelings or to catch feelings. By that time you have seen it all and done it all. The current doctor in particular is acting like a teenager on heat and can’t control his emotions.

As a gay man I am offended by what DW has become. I've seen every existing story from Hartnell - Whittaker. I was lucky enough to meet Jon Pertwee at a convention in the late 80's. It's so sad what has happened ... a slap in the face to the fans who kept it going for 60 years. I prefer the classic episodes, especially Tom Baker. It's worse than a show gone bad. It's a culture gone bad. RTD makes me sick for actively destroying what he did in 2005. My 10 yr. old nephew loves the classic DW I've shown him. I wouldn't show this modern day wokeness to a kid. There's a lot of truth behind kids hiding behind the sofa at the sight of a Dalek. I was 11 yrs old when I first saw Logopolis. Tom Baker was my first Doctor. When he fell from that tower and regenerated I cried like a baby. Didn't know what had just happened. I'd seen Romana regenerate, but they executed that poorly for someone who didn't understand regeneration. With the help of a VCR and countless hours I managed the classics. When it came back in 2005 it was like being a kid again. It was brilliant. Torchwood and Sarah Jane Adventures were amazing fun. Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi were just brilliant, but the stories were going downhill. I'd never ever been offended by DW until we started getting pot shots at a former president. Clearly, it was done just because they could. I tried so hard to get into Whittaker. Orphan 55 is the last episode I watched before apathy kicked in full force. Since then I've only kept up via reviews like yours. Consider me subscribed (-:

Thank you for your remarks Adric. I have had a run-in night battle on another site with a man who was incensed because I commented on that kiss episode. I tried to explain several times that it wasn't because I was homophobic but because it just wasn't Dr. Who anymore. I loved David Tennant and Matt Smith as the doctor. I loved Jack Harkness too, but I wasn't too keen on Capaldi, but what came after was disastrous. Jodie is a really good actress, but she wasn't Dr. Who. What has happened is that the BBC are one of the wokest institutions in the country, and it would appear that they think that if they completely change the Who ethos, we will all just fall at their feet. We won't! I think the Crux of the matter is that we don't want to see the doctor tongue kissing on screen. His character has always been someone who cared deeply for us little humans, with all our frailties, but sex never came into it. Even when we found he had a daughter, no mention of how that came to be was ever shown on screen. Like him, it was all wrapped in mystery. Maybe that is the answer to why a huge amount of us did not like that episode. Leave him alone and continue to let him be mysterious. We don't want him to have feet of clay. There's enough of that in everyday life. We want fantasy not reality.

He's from the UK and he told me that us foreigners need to get over it because the BBC states that any show created by the BBC is not meant for us anyway. A character calling himself 'Rogue' whom everyone fancies, is just hilariously bad. They might as well have called him Ace Rimmer. But more problematically, and demonstrating some massively piss-poor internal plot logic and just plain bad writing, if the Doctor could 'find him', then surely he could find his assistant too, had she been transported - especially with the assistance of his boyfriend - making the plot's supposedly anguished 'dilemma' nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Well if nothing else Davies’ is consistent I suppose as those familiar with his first stint on Nu Who (back when it was allegedly good) will recall his fetish-like proclivity for interracial relationships. Out of curiosity, do you get as upset over River Song and Rose? Just curious? OR (and I say this a heterosexual guy) does the gay offend you? The Doctor is an alien, with odd biology. His personality changes each regeneration. But sexuality is an issue? I grew up in the days of Tom Baker etc. That era was not as grand as people make out. stories and story telling evolve. Two reasons the River Song arc worked were it was built up over the course of more than one season, and it was almost forced on the Doctor as an inevitability that was somewhere in their timelines. The Doctor never pursued, let alone hit on, River Song. The Gatwa plot was the worst Gay stereotype imaginable -- a horny guy thinking with the wrong part of his body. There was no character building here, just lust.

The doctor has a different personality every time he regenerates, each doctor is (personality wise) a different person. Doctors in the past have been straight, such as William Hartnells doctor having something going on with that aztek woman, tennant with rose, most doctors with river, etc. If a regeneration can fully regenerate your body and personality and skills (eg, jon's doctor gaining martial arts abilities) there is no reason why a regeneration can't change your sexuality, as sexuality is apart of your personality. Secondly the doctor regenerated into a woman, but is still maried to river, so that makes her a lesbian sooo...

I will never watch the show again as long as it forces such political crap on its audience. I have watched every episode of Dr. Who since its pilot episode Nov. 23rd 1963. I will never give a moment of my time to the crap that has slowly filtered into the show since its origin. I stopped halfway through Whittaker, watched the horror of Peter Capaldi having to do with shit writing (the Claire show). His good acting held me to the show, hoping it would get better. It did, shortly for his last season. I have bad news for you: sexuality is not a personality trait. It is wired into deep rooted emotional centers of the brain that are not part of "personality." The Personality of a Timelord holds over and through the generations. It is only in the past two doctors that the audience has seen core personality shifts in the Doctor. Pushing gay hookups and social justice over a character that was "straight" for 50+ years is NOT science fiction. It is political BS, period. The show is doomed, it is at its lowest in the franchise history. They ruined something that was timeless. Millions of fans are gone now, so just keep justifying this bullshit and finish it completely off.

For example its first director was a British-Indian gay man, and first producer was a woman. There are creatures going back to the Sensorites on 20 June 1964, which just don't have gender. Don’t put everyone not liking everyone into that boat. This episode was the doctor lusting after someone. The doctor should never lust after anyone. A male companion/rogue fine but this era is lgbt heavy so kd probably have moved it to next season. Given rose noble and mistro already been prominant and lgbt heavy. If its overkill its overkill. Im gay and thinking Gatwa is playing himself and Russell has other passions. I’d rather they be on a show that suits them better like Russells next its a sin which was phenomenal. NO, no, no, no, no.........who do you think you are kidding? The story line now is all PC BS. Has nothing to do with the show, or its canon. I will never watch the show again as long as it forces such political crap on its audience. I have watched every episode of Dr. Who since its pilot episode Nov. 23rd 1963. I will never give a moment of my time to the crap that has slowly filtered into the show since its origin. I stopped halfway through Whittaker, watched the horror of Peter Capaldi having to do with shit writing (the Claire show). His good acting held me to the show, hoping it would get better. It did, shortly for his last season. I have bad news for you: sexuality is not a personality trait. It is wired into deep rooted emotional centers of the brain that are not part of "personality." The Personality of a Timelord holds over and through the generations. It is only in the past two doctors that the audience has seen core personality shifts in the Doctor. Pushing gay hookups and social justice over a character that was "straight" for 50+ years is NOT science fiction. It is political BS, period. The show is doomed, it is at its lowest in the franchise history. They ruined something that was timeless. Millions of fans are gone now, so just keep justifying this bullshit and finish it completely off.

The problem is not that he gay. Is that the way they wrote the story was trash. Honestly, I think the lgbt community should be insulted by this. They make the doctor gay and suddenly cries every episode, doesn’t actually save the day, and loses all his gravitas. I don’t understand why they cant make a gay guy be stoic, heroic and complex. Last episode he actually wastes like ten second talking about how hot Ricky is, to the point that even Ricky interrupts him and asks for the codes. Had he not done that and forgotten that he is there to save people Ricky would’ve survived. Here he says “oh shapeshifter murderers were ruby is at, I’ll just flirt with this guy go to his ship then mine. Sure she’ll be fine” and yeah I get upset that they ruined the character because I’ve been watching the doctor for over 20 years. This feels like they killed a friend of mine and replaced him with a clown.

Doctor Who died a slow and painful death after The Doctor and Rose, which was the best of Doctor Who. Nothing against Matt Smith, but the stories were getting crap. Peter Capaldi even worse. Then it went over the proverbial cliff. Now just a sickening insult to the entire franchise.
