There has to be more to this than just "it's old Ruby." Ruby herself only went back in time after meeting the woman, and quite how she got sent back is remarkably inexplicable. Some other entity got mixed up in this here.

To my understanding old Ruby was sent back in time because the curse activated by the broken fairy circle, likely forever binds her in a loop beginning on the cliff when the circle is broken. Only breaking the loop when the Doctor avoids it. I’ve heard some people hypothesize that old Ruby is a personification of Ruby’s deepest fear, rejection. When people interact with the old woman they immediately and inexplicably reject and leave Ruby. In fear or loathing, but they leave all the same. Caused by the curse. I don’t know if this show will ever explain it or if it’s going to remain partially enigmatic like Midnight.

When Kate said disengage, it got incredibly dark. Not even her organization could withstand that entity. I really want to know what they saw or heard that made them Scream. Kate is definitely an interesting character.

@@pascalfernandes6957Possibly. I’ve heard some people hypothesize that the curse personified Ruby’s deepest fear…abandonment. It’s not about what old woman (Ruby) is actually saying, it’s a supernatural force at work caused by a broken fairy seal that quite literally makes people inexplicably abandon her. Be it fear or loathing. This episode might get further explaining in the future, but for now it remains enigmatic.

Some are more horror than others, some are whole world building projects involving different worlds hidden beneath our own. You may have heard of SCP-106, or peanut, which is a concrete statue that behaves exactly like a weeping angel but was written before they were unveiled.

Spoiler alert: the old woman is Ruby herself & she told everybody who approached her that she is older Ruby so everybody left the older herself alone & thought the younger herself is crazy & abandoned her When Ruby smashed the glass on the floor at the end, i can felt her anger for nobody trust her & abandoned her
