Here's a fun fact: when the BBC sent this episode to the press for reviews, they wanted to keep Eccleston's regeneration a secret. So they sent the tape with an alternate ending that has not been released to fans. The alternate ending apparently had Rose dying in the Doctor's arms.

I know everyone loves Tenant, but Eccleston will always be my favourite Doctor. His goodbye is one of the best. Heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. If he hadn't made me love him as much, I never would have started watching the show and never gotten hooked.

If you're moving on to the next season, then you should see the Doctor Who Mini Episode "Born Again Children In Need Special 2005". It's only a few minutes, but it acts as a bridge between the end of this episode and the beginning of the next. Another fun fact: The next episode was the beginning of a new tradition on Doctor Who, the Christmas specials. Normally the specials aren't counted in the usual 13 episode lineup, but this next one, The Christmas Invasion, was, because it was the premiere of a new Doctor. Happy watching.

When i started watching, I didn't realize Christopher Eccleston was only in for one season, i miss him still. Great finale for season 1 (of the series that i watched, i know its not officially season one). But yes yes yes yes yes!!!!!

It is a bit confusing the seasons isn't it. Conventional fan numbering is to to call the Classic Series (1963-1989) as Seasons 1 to 27 and New Who (sometimes Nu Who) as Series 1 to 9 (and the upcoming Series 10). Just to be confusing Series 7 is often broken down into 7a (2012) and 7b (2013) because although it was filmed all together its premiere was on 1st September 2012 with the 1st 6 episodes shown until 29th September 2012, then the Christmas special, "The Snowmen", which aired separately from the main series in December and then the remaining eight episodes began broadcasting on 30th March 2013! And of course there are the Doctor Who (2008-2010 specials) which come in between Series 4 (2007) and Series 5 (2010)!!!

One of the best reactions EVER. I'm a 50 year old guy who remembers watching Dr Who in the early 70's. All I have to say lady is that you have so much to look forward to in Dr Who watching that you cannot imagine. Imagine if you can, the feels that you had for 9 (Chris Eccleston) regenerating into 10 (David Tennant) multiplied by 10 (!) when 10 regenerates into the (superb) 11 (Matt Smith). River Song, Amy, Clara and always the best Sarah-Jane Smith. There is no fandom like Whovians. Enjoy.

The regeneration concept began when the first Doctor was unable to continue his role and studio decided to give a canon reason why the Doctor suddenly looked different. Originally timelords could choose how they would look but the Doctor was too indecisive so it was decided his regeneration would be random. The other thing to note is that timelords have a limited amount of regenerations before they have to stop, I think it's 13 if I remember correctly.

Such a powerful shot, with the Daleks trying to exterminate the Doctor, and he's just there resting his head on the door, reflecting on his past and the Time War and everything! Doctor Who at its finest. Moments like that are why the recent seasons suck so much, because it's all just dumb fun now, none of these small moments that imply so much, no time to understand the gravity of a situation and the darker side to the show.

The 10th doctor was my first doctor, saw the episode tooth and claw and thought it was great, then a week later I casually noticed that School Reunion was about to start and put it on, just like that I was hooked. Or how about the Doctor realising that the threat is too great to risk the life of Rose, and decides to send her home, and let the TARDIS die, and the way Eccleston delivers it, and Rose refusing to accept that she's being sent home, and the music and everything, it all just strikes that perfect emotional chord. Moments that sad and that dark are what I lived for when I was watching this as a kid. If this were Matt Smith, the Doctor would be like 'Oh, never mind, everybody have dumb stupid fun killing the big villain of the episode. No need to send you home' or something along those lines.

The US network is to blame for that. RTD wated a five-part story like 'Children of Earth', but US shows have much longer series, so they made him extend it to ten.
