This is genius, I never realised when I was younger. They need all this footage of the Doctor speaking for when Martha fast forwards through the video and instead of it being scripted they just let David go on about whatever he wanted. I love how he doesn't break character or even smile. The transition from the mouth noises to No. 23 is perfect.

Actually, David had to say a bunch of things so it could look like Martha was fast-forwarding through a bunch of things to do. The thing is, David didn't get any lines, they just told him to make it up as he went on. So he said true facts about himself, like how he really hates pears and has always been a fan of The Housemartins. He also really did that mistake, but was able to fix it really fast. It just makes me love him even more. :)

I think the pears part was left in for Human Nature, because i remember the scene where we're first introduced to "John Smith" he's eating a pear, but it could be that they fast forwarded through David talking about pears so the punchline is still in the episode but the setup was lost

It was. In the show, this was the scene on the TARDIS screen that Martha was watching, everything between 4 and 23 was sped up and wouldn't be understood. So no script was needed for this scene, and David was asked just simply improvise it
