The second episode - The Devil's Chord - wow, it's hard to describe. Drag Queen extraordinaire Jinkx Monsoon explodes on to the screen as Dr. Ncuti's new villain, Maestro. And it's a sight to see.
Actually, maybe don't. Just watch this recap & review. It's shorter and not as much as an assault on the eyes.

Maestro is the best thing in this episode, a fantastic over the top scene stealing performance. The song and dance number however is, for me, the definitive moment the show jumps the shark. I kept hoping it was leading somewhere but it only lead to the credits. Absolute cringe.

The problem I saw with maestro was that he was extremely unserious and the doctor was extremely serious. It felt disjointed. But I agree, maestro was the best thing of this terrible episode

I literally could not care less whether they have a drag queen on the show. I just care that the story-writing for this series is BAD and they seem to be stealing elements from so many shows and movies, rather than going for anything original.

I don’t care for the constant 4th wall breaking, I feel like it works with maestro because they are beyond time and space, but having sideline characters talking to the camera and the dr winking at the camera feels strange and forced. I actually enjoyed it up until the painful musical number at the end

They stole scenes from as many shows and movies as they could. Not a toug of originality. Not even a fan but gave it a watch.. Episode 1 crying about what they didn't recieve from there parents as children...terrible jokes and that Disney special talent fro telling you everything you need to know about main characters in the space of 5 minutes. Episode 2 stipe scenes from butterfly effect...straight into healing the butterfly stilen from the green mile. And that musical scene taken right out of Dr. Strange....this is so pathetic and lacking any originality.

Like Mork and Mindy this is Ncuti and Ruby. Good lord. Between Disparu's review and now yours this is just getting worse and worse. I'm trying to understand their angle here too. Because its rather funny to want "muh representation" yet bring in this drag freak and make him the villain and obnoxious one at that. I know its not what I'm sure some people might claim is "based" but unintentionally so, when it is just to have more the alphabet representation one way or another. In my book this is all exactly what RTD wanted to do, but either the writing team back then or the BBC toned him down. This is definitely full mask off. Also just as Disparu put it, this is what happens when you take something that is very much a certain culture in this case British and Americanize it or Globalize it. Turns to shit. Welp, another episode, another horrible sounding mess. Lets see how Moffat also adds to the shit in the bed! Great review sir.

I haven't watched the show for several seasons, but I'm confused. Do we have a gay black doctor with an assistant with a lesbian mother and also a lesbian best friend featuring a non-binary drag queen? I'm all for inclusivity, but I feel like this is just as bad as if every single character was straight, cisgender and white? Like, anything in extreme is bad.
