Doctor Who with the Tijuana Brass - does life get any better ?

BBC breakdown slides from that era typically read something like 'We regret the loss of your programme. It will be restored as soon as possible.' There are some off-air photos of them on Flickr.

Where did you obtain the original audio from?

If I recall correctly, the Audio was recorded by Graham Strong (1949-2018) who made multiple off-air doctor who audio recordings. May he rest in peace.

So, does that mean that there are two different complete audio recordings of The Evil of the Daleks, one that was from the original transmission and one from the 1968 repeat?@@Angelgreat

@dr.who.recon.network7638 Sorry for the late response, but I said it MAY have came from him, I didn't say it it definitely came from him. As fare as I'm aware, the other source of the audio could be the Randolph Tapes, though I could also be wrong on that one.

This audio has been around for a number of years. It was included on one of the VHS recons of The Wheel in Space. Likely the same source as the recording of Evil 1 which has some additional dialogue dubbed on by the Doctor and Zoe

Yes, I thought that would be the case.@@DavidGP1983 It was on The Wheel In Space Joint Venture Reconstruction. What I was really interested in is whether there was a second complete audio recording of The Evil of the Daleks from the 1968 repeat. I do wonder where this original recording came from and whether there were audio recordings done for all the other episodes.

Is the description accurate in saying this audio is from a repeated episode? I have no recollection of Dr Who episodes ever being repeated in the 1960s (apart from "An unearthly child"). If I had the misfortune to miss an episode, I was always resigned to it having gone permanently. If this was a repeat, which I doubt, was it on BBC1 or BBC2 (which our TV set could not receive in 1968) and on what day of the week would it have been broadcast? The next episode was announced as being scheduled for broadcast on 13 July 1968, which was a Saturday, the normal broadcast day for Dr Who, the gap being because of Wimbledon sports coverage. The Radio Times shows this episode as having been transmitted on Saturday 22 Jun 1968 at the normal time of 17:15 to 17:40 and there is no mention of its being a repeat.

Evil was the first full repeat of a story. Shown the week after the final episode of The Wheel in Space on BBC1 in the series usual time slot.

@@DavidGP1983 The Radio Times archive backs up that the transmission of The Evil of the Daleks which it labels as Season 4 immediately followed The Wheel in Space which is Season 5 so you are obviously right.
