Well, it is way more similar to "Galiifrey" from Season 4 specials mood than to "This is Gallifrey" one.

I love the original because it has that hopeful tone of reminiscence of a home that no longer exists. It's the Doctor's nostalgia personified in music. This version though, it's turned away from nostalgia and instead become more about the personal relationship between the Doctor and the Master. It was their childhood, their home, and that's what still connects them. I liked Season 11-13s composer, but Murray Gold's leitmotifs not being utilised for specific characters actually did harm the show, and that makes me sad.

Came back to this video, remember being so excited to hear This is Gallifrey again after so long, thinking it would never come back during Moffat's era. I truly believe season 10 was Moffat's best, Capaldi's best, and included so many memories which Murray Gold brought back such as this one. Yes, it commemorates Gallifrey, but also the Doctor and the Master and their long, winding, never ending story. As usual Oswin, thank you for your brilliant soundtrack uploads!

It's a great motif, but any actual reason why it featured in these episodes? Is it like whenever the Doctor and Missy share a scene or something?
