Like when he asked them why they didn't just use the progenitor device to create new Daleks, I think though that they were also embarrassed and ashamed that they weren't pure and knew that the Doctor would gloat about it which shows how prideful they can be. Saw a behind the scenes, and apparently the low ceiling was a design choice. Their reasoning was that the ship was built for daleks, who are for the most part all the same height, who all glide across the floor, so they wouldn't care about headroom

I like the Paradigm Daleks' design. I even like the colours chosen, and think they look good, if a little bright. They even got a good shade of yellow - probably the hardest colour to get appealing shades of. But I admit that they look a tad silly when they're all together.

Like I said before, the Paradigm Daleks with their specific caste system, no nonsense attitude and extreme obsession with genetic purity along with getting an upgraded look is fine, my only complaint were their travel machines which looked goofy and something made by IKEA. Still, I can see the Daleks with travel machines that size that get used for heavy assault purposes and for use by elite guard members whose job it is to protect the Dalek supreme council and the emperor.

It's a shame these Daleks sort of faded away over time. I think they were fantastic additions to the show - maybe not as *replacements* to the 2005 Daleks, but certainly great *additions*. just gonna throw my two cents in here, I got into who during tennants' second series and watched eccelstons' run and a fair bumber of classic who too before Smiths'. I always liked the daleks but after seeing soo much of the same design being beaten I was ready for a upgrade to them. When these were introduced I was in awe. These were simething to be feared; biger, bulkier, and much taller to match or exceed the actors. Not that the old ones weren't, they could be terrifying. But these, these screamed they were the most feared force in the universe. And as for the different colors, daleks have always had different colors, these were more overt and needed darker metallic paint is all. Plus the more techbo-organic eyestalks fit what they are. But thanks to bandwagoning joke making hate we lost out on seriously promising potential. Imagine a story where the doctor runs into a group of daleks led by a few scientist ones on a planet mining materials to augment their weaponry, but he has to let them go with their spoils to save the people living there because the strategist ones devised the petfect plan based upon the doctors past actions and personality. So much could be done with them, especially the eternal. But thanks to stubborn nitpickers we were robbed of such stories. Also, it just makes sense for them to upgrade their design over time, stagnation is hatmful and the daleks seem the type of race to recognize faults and uupgrade/improve their design instead of sticking to a design that has proven to be beatable numerous times.

The model is perfectly fine and makes sense that the Daleks would want to look down on other races, the problem is the colour scheme which removes every single trace of fear a Dalek had.

Stephen, I disagree. The color pattern is supposed to make the different Daleks recognisable. Remember how in RTD's era we had Thay, Sec, Jast and Caan? That's what the Paradigm was gonna be (except for the Drones), except you could tell all of them apart because they don't nearly all have the same color. Having a main group of Dalek characters, of antagonists whose journey you follow until they die. I do agree their color pattern is very random, the colours should have been less contrasting to each other. However what these Daleks would have been, "rainbow coloured" or not, would have been much better than what Moffat has turned them into: pepperbot robots with forgettable stories that can't hit a target in a corridor that's half a meter wide. Moffat called the Paradigm daleks a mistake? He literally approved of their design, otherwise it would have never gotten offscreen. He just puts in as much fan service as possible to compensate for lazy writing and can't handle any backlash. Like the Daleks didn't get backlash int he 60's for their weird, "ridiculous" look. They didn't change that though, did they?

It's funny looking back at this scene. At the time I think Moffat was trying to make the entire universe his own in a way, make everything new. New doctor, new companion, new head writer, new TARDIS, new sonic screwdriver, I think it only made sense to him to bring in new Daleks. However, since the conception of these paradigm Daleks we've hardly seen them at all, in fact it seems Moffat has given up on them and just gone back to the Davies style Dalek.

That's what brings me back to this clip, because though I absolutely and utterly prefer the 2005 "New-Series Dalek" design, if they had voices as utterly spine-chilling, evil-sounding, deep, bassy and downright threatening as these ones, it would be an improvement over the higher pitched ones, imho. These "Paradigm" Daleks look like Lego, almost headbutt the ceiling and seem very easy to topple with how much they wobble, also they look utterly ridiculous with that hunchback and crappy fender, but at least they did one thing right; just- just imagine the 2005 episode "Dalek", when Eccleston first enters the room with the Dalek all chained up in the dark, and all you can see is the eye light, and then it speaks - imagine if this is the voice you heard coming from the dark. I love these paradigm Daleks. Even when I was younger watching this for the first time as a kid I was mind blown. I don’t even mind the multi colours because it’s their ranking system. If anything I wish their had been more. We could have seen a green & gun metal grey and maybe even a purple& silver Dalek maybe that’s just me that wanted that anyway. And the thing is they improved the colours in Asylum of the Daleks by muting the colours and making them more Metallic which also looked fantastic. The paradigm Daleks apparently also had a feature where they could interchange appendages for bigger weapons or things like a claw etc. it’s just a shame we never saw it in the show because Moffat decided to please fans by fazing them out and bringing back the Time war Daleks (a mistake if you ask me personally, he should’ve just kept the paradigm Daleks). We also sadly never found out the purpose of the Eternal Dalek. Perhaps 🤔 he held thousands of progenitors in his casing to ensure the Daleks survival by any means necessary. Idk 🤷🏻‍♂️. I also very much like the design and colour system. I’m a sucker for classifications and colour coding. It opened the door to so many intriguing plots, especially with the eternal dalek as you mentioned. Imagine the doctor being in action against a mysterious enemy and then he just notices the eternal dalek in the background through a crowd before it slips into the shadows and vanishes. Could have set up some cool reveals.

The White Supreme has always been my favourite Paradigm from the start because he embodies the whole notion of being a Dalek: Perfection, purity and strength. I also love that the Paradigms are the same height as the Doctor.

CordlessJet For me in Asylum they were barely noticeable, reduced more to background Daleks, they just spontaneously brought back the gold Daleks without explanation (And you could make the assumption that the impure mutants had been replaced, but there should have been some sort of explanation)

JamesGames101 The actual explanation was that the Drone's are officers of the lesser Bronze Daleks. They're still the pure blooded Daleks like Paradigms, just using the older casing. Likely a way for the new Dalek empire to expand quickly.

of course if you want the "behind the scenes answer" The Number of letters/emails/tweets/whatever else that the BBC received after Victory of the Daleks aired reached ten's of thousands basically saying "we don't like the new daleks" plus Matt Smith in his early days as the Doctor struggled to gain the popularity that David Tennant had when he played the role, so that plus the "plastic daleks" forced the BBC to look towards the style of older episodes, hence bringing back the Bronze Daleks we all know and love

I actually really like the Progenitor Daleks. The added height and slope of the back that suggests they're leaning forward make them a little more intimidating, the design of the eye suggests an organic element, and the smoother surfaces give them a sleek, kind of futuristic style. I even like the color coding. It makes them a little more visually distinct (though I do understand why some see them as too visually distinct). Much as I love the bronze Daleks and feel they've aged gracefully, it would have been nice if these Daleks had been given a proper chance in the show, at least as the definitive Daleks of the Matt Smith era.

I never fully understood why the new paradigm was considered to be more pure than the crucible Daleks. The original Daleks were made from Kaled tissue. The crucible Daleks were made from Davros’ tissue. Davros is a Kaled. How pure can you get? I wasn’t too fond of the colour scheme or the big hump on the back, but I loved the big booming voice of the Supreme. It reminded me of the the Emperor from Evil Of The Daleks.

I don't get either why the Crucible Daleks were deemed impure. They were made from Davros's tissue and he's a Kaled. Since the Daleks were made from Kaled tissue, the ones made from Davros should've been deemed pure. Perhaps Davros's DNA when he made the Crucible Daleks had deviated from the original Kaled DNA by then and produced Daleks that were too different genetically for the liking of the progenitor device and the Paradigm Daleks.

Maybe Davros had to make do with some minor mutations that occurred in his work, considering he was building an army from the cells of his already ailing body. He quite likely didn't have the luxury of choice, being the only Kaled available.
