That scene with The Doctor freaking out about the Flux, Timeless Child and being duped by Donna, now we know all the anger that 13 was keeping at bay. It was brilliant, that whole sequence

@@MatthewCYN15 yes, I get that. I feel like the reason she didn't freak out much was because, when she got that face it was such a fresh start and she wanted to be positive about things and that's the side she decided to show the fam, so much that it became difficult for her to show them anything else so she started keeping a lot of it hidden. Otherwise, I've seen Jodie in other stuff and know that she's capable of emoting in pretty much the same way that 14 showed when he freaked out. But I like the continuing thread, showing that this wasn't just a passing thing and RTD has said we might see the 15th Doctor still being affected by those revelations as well. When the Doctor said he'd be okay in a million years, I don't think that was much of an exaggeration. It's always going to weigh on him in some capacity, unless they decide to confront it head on in some way someday.

This was RTD's promise to us that the old style of Who is back. This was a simple classic great episode. It was Doctor and Donna on a spaceship with a scary but silly villain trying to take over the universe and he had to stop them. Simple... not frills. No cameos or tricks. It was just a good old cheesy and beautiful Doctor Who episode. I loved it!

I like RTD coming back for the specials, but I’m nervous about him coming back for the series with a new doctor. RTD had 9 and all 3 seasons of 10. Moffat has 11 and 12. The fact that Jodie and her showrunner have only been for her I think is a bit like give everyone a fair shot to write multiple doctors.

I’m so old that Bernard Cribbins was the voice of my childhood. He used to narrate The Wombles stories on tv when I was just a toddler and he read stories to kids on children’s tv for decades on the BBC. When he appeared as Wilf on Doctor Who it was like having my Grandad on the show. To see people grow to love him through Doctor Who and see how moved so many people were at his brief appearance here is beautiful. His reaction to seeing Fourteen felt genuine and raw and it makes me cry every time I see it. RIP to our Grandad Cribbins ❤

I can’t remember the exact quote or where it’s from but I heard once someone said “hate is loud, but I think you’ll find love runs much deeper”. I like to think that for as loud as hate and pain is, it’s just a noise, it’s gone as soon as it’s over. But love persists, it lasts, it has substance.

What an effective creepy episode. It has the combined unease of Midnight and the Impossible Planet/Satan’s Pit two-parter. Nothing against Jodie Whittaker’s acting but David Tennant sold me on the Doctor’s anguish over the Timeless Child and the Flux. I felt it more from this Doctor than 13. That last scene with Wilf, minus the dramatic cliffhanger, was an absolute delight. So happy we have the opportunity to see him again.

No no , that is definitely just fictional pseudo-science mambo jambo! Nothing in this universe can travel faster than 300.000 km/s; not light, radiowaves, ideas or consequences. And also, I doubt that an octopus, mushroom or tardigrade can understand the concept of “hate”, and these are beings that live on our own planet right next to us.

3:00 in researching if that misnaming was actually possible, I was surprised to find that the use of "gravity" to represent the "force of gravity" only dates to 1620 (still earlier than 1666, but it's hardly DW's biggest fudge). I'd assumed the fact that things fall towards the Earth would have had a name before, but apparently not a formal one. That said, the use of the word "gravity" to mean something of import (which I'd usually think of as the metaphorical use of the term) is actually at least a century older, from circa 1500.

I didn't realize something until you said "It doesn't matter what we call something." It may be an intentional metaphor. People get riled up about trans agenda and pronouns. Someone being a different gender at birth and their chosen pronouns. In the end it's just words and shouldn't matter. So why make some people such a big deal out of it? They may laugh at the mavity-gravity-situation, but start making a fuss about someone wanting to be called by a different pronoun.

I love the fear of invoking a superstition The Doctor mentioned. I hope it turns into something cool. It felt out of place on 1st watch. But then I remembered the Timelords brought rationality to The Doctor's universe. So it's interesting to think irrational things like superstitions may have power on the edge of the rational universe established by the Time Lords.

I feel like this episode was to make everyone that wasn't gonna like The Star Beast shut up..lol, felt like a perfect classic Who episode. Nice self contained story..it maybe will connect to some of the other stuff but could've just been a way to introduce potential new fans into the type of content Who makes, and it was a crazy simple episode compared to the other 2 specials. I mean, like 2 or 3 sets, lots of green screen, only 2 actors for a huge amount of the episode..plus we got our boy back at the end for some fan service..lol, I read it was the last thing he filmed but maybe there was more they saved to show in the next episode, either way I'm pumped and dreading it at the same time. I know what's coming, and it breaks ya every time.

Calling this a bisexual reveal feels a little weird to me. As a bisexual man I really think it’s a bit regressive to treat people openly expressing that individuals of the same sex are attractive as an indicator of sexuality. It would be nice to live in a world where straight men could compliment other men without that being assumed in the way girls can. I would love if my friends had been able to express that to me growing up. It would have made me a lot less insecure.

I’m a very new fan to Doctor Who. I had never seen it before until very recently. I started with the 9th Doctor and binged the whole modern show in two months. Haven’t seen the Classic show yet but I plan to soon. For me, I wasn’t at all bothered by the Timeless Child plotline. It seemed to me from the get go that The Doctor was sort of a special amongst the Time Lords. So I just kinda took that in stride when it happened. I had some issues with Chibnall’s era from a writing standpoint, but as a brand new fan, that piece of lore just seemed like, oh yeah of course that makes sense to me. I know it’s an unpopular opinion, but for my experience with the show, I’m glad that RTD decided to stick with it and weave that and the Flux in to where The Doctor is at now emotionally. Their baggage is at an all time high and I’m glad they acknowledged that.

Out of everything in this episode it’s sad that that’s what you focus on, especially since Newton wasn’t on screen long.

@@chaotic7cam I mean it was a fun episode but I don't think it was anything special, not much to talk about in it. We've already seen this kind of story a couple of times in Doctor Who. If they cast a POC as a different enthnicity then people would be up in arms, so I don't really think it should be acceptable here either. Sorry but it's absolutely a double standard and hypocritical.

I think it was purely cus rtd worked with the actor before, and he likes to use people hes worked with in the past

I think it depends on the tone. In a serious biopic, I would say it matters more than in a funny bit, like here. I mean... Most have zero problem with Hamilton. Again because of its particular artistic tone. Also, we've been portaying Jesus as a white European for centuries. Maybe we should start there.

I did not like the episode, I thought it was a bunch of okay set pieces that didn't amount to a very good story; the mystery, from a writer's POV, is basically the worst mystery story I've ever seen, since all the answers are so flagrantly simplistic and obvious , but just made to be as obtuse as possible until you're outright told them in the final 5 minutes, which is not a good way to write a mystery story (this is such a noticable problem that even the episode itself lampshades this; but just being self-aware doesn't make up for bad writing). The psychological horror was alright, and I liked the stand off with the pair & their doubles, not knowing who is who. But even so, overall, I felt that the execution of this concept left a lot to be desired, and that the episode relies far too strongly on the "it's weird & unusual = it's good" strategy. From my perspective--I know this is how it was for me, but maybe others are different--It basically presents something so unusual that you have no reaction to it by the end other than a big emotional ball that you interpret as liking the episode. I, myself, felt like I loved this episode immediately after watching it. Then I actually sat back and thought about it, and I realised how badly the entire episode was written, and structured. The direction on many of the scenes were fantastic though, I will say, and the acting is phenomenal at points, especially considering that the David & Catherine were doing double duty the entire episode.

The incoherent tone really turned me off from this episode, I can tell this has the potential to be a grower. The highlight was Tennant’s performance in this episode, that scene in the hallway spoke volumes. I’m at a 6/10 with it rn, ig I was just expecting a little more from these anniversary specials. I’m so sad that this scene was the only thing they were able to shoot for Wilf, my favorite character in all of Dr Who. I’m kinda indifferent, but since Wilf’s in it then that makes it required viewing.

The CGI was terrible and made the whole thing look really cheesy and low budget

@@BryanTheDM Not at all, this was worse than usual, the giant versions of the doctor and donna were fucking awful. There's a difference between charmingly poor effects and gcse media project level effects.
