Welcome to another Doctor Reacts to Grey's Anatomy video! You've all been requesting this one - the PLANE CRASH episode, season 8 finale! What an intense episode. A plane crash means high energy traumas: there are orthopaedic injuries, open fractures, spine injuries, crush injuries. . . this is definitely the type of episode that you want a surgeon reacting to!
We review some real anatomy and pathophysiology throughout this video. If you love medical dramas and medicine, you're in the right place!
Why do I love doing these Greys Anatomy reaction videos? I've really been inspired by Doctor Mike who does incredible teaching in his doctor reaction videos. I've also been inspired by reaction videos from Dr Kristina Braly, Doctor Mama Jones and Dr Hope Sick Notes. This is a great method for teaching various medical topics and I'm definitely hooked on doing these medical drama reviews.

hey! this isn't a recommendation and i'm actually quite new to your channel, so if you've already covered this i apologize haha. recently just over a month ago i was in a car accident and suffered from an L1 burst fracture that required emergency surgery with a reconstruction and rods to be placed on my l2 and t5. i was wondering, since you're an orthopedic spine surgeon, if you could do a video covering what an operation for that is like and just some general information? thanks!

@@amberlee.nycole.perrine8150 Shock. Been there. You focus on the smallest and dumbest of things sometimes. I was dying of blood loss and all I cared about was talking about the sharks in my shark book. Went from a delirious and blood loss induced panic attack about them trying to stick me with a needle to 'ooh look at these sharks'. Didn't even notice them sticking me with the big ass needle to start the transfusion. Nobody could calm me down and the nurse noticed my shark book and immediately used it to distract me. She'd point to a picture and ask me what kind of shark it was. Went from panic thrashing to in depth explaining each shark and I was laser focused on it to the point that I forgot about the needle I was panicking about until she said "okay it's in. You did great" and I was like 'what's in?' and saw the IV and was like....'WHEN THE FUCK DID THAT HAPPEN?' The brain is freaking weird man.

Honestly Greys Anatomy was never the same for me after Lexie and Mark died. Especially Lexie. She really became my favorite character. She was not only funny and smart but she actually cared and had so much heart. As for the chief situation. So basically Richard fell back on the alcoholism problem and Derek kinda exploited that and took his job as chief. But Derek sucked as chief and after the shooting episode in the hospital he gave the job up. It's been so long since I've seen exactly what happened but yeah somehow Owen wound up getting the job of chief but he didn't really do any better considering I'm pretty sure the plane crash was his fault because he gave them like a cheap plane and they wind up actually sueing the hospital.

@@DoctorDan hello Dr Dan! New subscriber here and loving these videos 🤗🤗🤗 I seen a few ppl tell you why Webber is no longer Chief. They they are slightly incorrect just in this case with Hunt being the Chief. So, after Derek gives up the position Webber is Chief again and all is well at Seattle Grace Mercy Death lool *inside joke if you become a grey fanatic* anywaysss all is well until Webbers wife got Alzheimer's and Meredith messed with Derek's clinical trial to get Webbers wife the Alzheimer's formula. Webber took the blame cause she was doing it for him and at that point with her residency and them trying to adopt she had more to lose. The board asked for him to step down he could continue as a surgeon but Hunt was offered the position.
@kaitlynduras8741
@kaitlynduras8741 3 жыл бұрын
Doctor Dan basically owen became chief because meredith messed with shepherds clinical trial to try and help webber’s wife. and since webber was so close with meredith and wants to protect her he took the fall for it knowing he could still be a surgeon, just not chief. Also meredith and derek were in the middle of an adoption and if she lost her job they would probably lose custody of their kid

I swear I cried when Lexie died. Meredith went through a lot losing the only sister she cared about. They always wanna try to kill Lexie, her character in Super Girl almost died too in a plane crush lol You should watch too the next episodes where it discusses Arizona’s femur fracture, Callie’s course of treatment for her wife, and how it was treated long term. Also it discussed Derek’s treatment too by Callie. Lots of Ortho discussion since Arizona and Derek sustained a (ALMOST for Derek) permanent injury and Callie was determined to save them and keeping them enable to do surgeries.

Cristina makes lexie "run it down for her" to make an attempt to calm her down. if you watched earlier seasons you'd see that their relationship consisted of bickering, yet, Cristina was just trying to help her. and in lexie's final moment Cristina is affirming her knowledge instead of correcting her.

One thing about Derek’s hand. He was also hearing Meredith screaming for him. He was stuck and knew she could hear him because he was hoarse and didn’t want her to wander too far in the forest....also the fact that he doesn’t know how weak he will be within the next couple of hours. All of that contributed to it. I would imagine if Meredith wasn’t there he would’ve waited far longer.

I had to search those episodes on the Internet to watch them. I'm not sure if those episodes weren't allowed in German TV or if it's because of air time (usually grey 's anatomy episodes air at 7:10 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. - with lots of commercial breaks of course)

I cried like hell during S9E1 because Mark died😫 Arizona's leg was amputated, and her relationship with Callie went downhill because of that(which made me super sad). Dr Shepherd didn’t really have a choice. He had no way of knowing if he would be rescued. He was seperated from the plane, so probably no one even knew where he was. His best chance for survival would be to get back to the plane. That’s a bit difficult when hauling a few hundred kilos of plane with you. Btw, dr Webber had a drinking problem. He was forced to step down as chief and enter a physicians rehab program. Hunt replaced him. Well, first Shepard and then hunt.

I must say, I have watched a lot of 'Doctor's react' videos on KZbin late. Going down the wormhole if you will, and I have to give props to you Dr. Dan. To the way you break down everything in the video. Thank you so much for your insight to the medical dramas. Thank you for breaking things down into layman's terms as well for some of us that don't quite grasp the jargon or medical terminology. It is quite refreshing to see and hear. Kudos and two thumbs up!! You have gained a faithful subscriber!

Hello Dr. Dan, Just wanted to thank you for posting this. I am a huge Grey’s fan, which is why I instantly clicked to watch your video. However, I found your commentary in between the clips so interesting and informative. I am so passionate about medicine and you are great at explaining all these complex scenarios!

I just found your videos and I'm so thankful! Ever since I was in the hospital for 3 days I've had a new respect for doctors nurses, etc. And. to find a doctor who teaches while going through guilty pleasure medical dramas is great fun...also I will never not cringe at Derrek's hand scene 😰 thank you for all the hard and fun work you do!

Such a good react video!! I don't think I've ever seen a physician react to this particular episode of Grey's. It is heartbreaking, and it doesn't get better in the next episode. The tears just keep flowing! Get your tissues ready Dr. Dan! And thanks for the great content.

hi dr. dan, i love your videos as it’s so interesting to see a real medical perspective on a medical drama, especially grey’s anatomy because it’s my absolute favourite. like a few other comments have said, i do definitely recommend you watch the 1-2 episodes after this. they’re amazing as they show the true aftermath of everyone’s injuries and trauma, and there’s also some new interns! also if you haven’t already and you’re interested, the last 2 episodes of season 6 are a great (and sad) watch. a man who’s wife died in hospital comes in and begins a mass shooting, and the doctors have to try and survive :(

Hands down Arizona was the best person at handling of her own emotions and making others feel better (by others I mean Jerry) in this episode and also I think Cristina got Lexie to run down her injuries so if she did survive she would still be able to diagnose other injuries (because she is a surgical intern)

You couldn't have said it better. It made me realize how since I was little, 14 years years old or so, all my purpose in my life was to become a doctor... and it still is. It's crazy the amount of time I've invested in this, it's not only the years you study that you dedicate to medicine, it's also the whole "wanting" that urges us to fight to make it into med school. It's started way before finishing high school, at least for me. We really make it to be a life purpose and when you are on the way (in med school) it feels big and tremendously out of reach. Anyways, I love your videos! I don't miss any of them. Keep it up!
