I have been a professional Saxophonist for decades and I am blown away by the realistic sound. Yes the breath controller and the technology sampling make this all possible. I play Flute and Clarinet too. I Saxophonr has always been one of the most difficult of all instruments to get the Tonality and expressiveness to sound convincing.
@gradjelamers87703 жыл бұрын
No samples but thanks to realistic virtual modelling
@exedeath3 жыл бұрын
Thats not sampling. Imagine a recorder, flute, its a thing of specific shape, with specific size, made of specific material, with specific amount of holes at specific locations. When you blow air at some hole while closing (or not) some holes, the air moving to this specific thing create the specific flute sound. What this program that this music controller uses do, is to create a virtual version of this thing, with same size, material, shape and etc..., them it simulates air going troughtthis thing and simulate what the sound this entire situation would do.

Thanks. I was wondering if it would pass from sax player’s perspective. Possibility is limitless with these controllers. Glad that I picked piano as a kid and now can play just anything with midi hardware.😅
@BigParadox3 жыл бұрын
I play sax and flute, and I know two things: 1) It is very difficult to construct technical equipment that is able to reproduce these instruments so well. 2) Even if you happened to have such good equipments, it is very difficult to play and handle them so that it actually sounds so realistic. This video has both. Very impressive!
@lescobrandon80453 жыл бұрын
I could sit in a chair and just watch this guy work all day. The equipment is as pristine as it was when it came out of the box in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's. This is a playland for men age 15-60.

The realism of these new SWAM instruments is just mind-blowing. You can hear the keys and pads on the clarinet! You can hear the air as it moves past the holes! You can hear the reed in the sax vary with breath and embouchure. Astounding!!

Hi. Thanks for the video, Doctor Mix! Just one question. There are 3 well known breath controllers on the market (TEC, MRTAudio and Air Motion). Are there some critical differences between these models? Or all of the breath controllers uses the same principles and work exactly the same way?

Mighty Claudio.

Great demo of all those instruments. In my experience the piccolo typically is always loud with even timbre and requires a lot of air so almost full velocity would make it sound the most practical. It sounded too synthy on the improv. Can’t wait to try it on my Ewi.

Doc - I am a Sax player using an EWI5000 with SWAM Instruments. My wife is a Trumpet player who I am trying to get into digital music because she can no longer play her Trumpet and Flugelhorn for health reasons. When using the TEC BBC2 (with a Native Instruments MC32 keyboard), would you think that would give her enough relief in air pressure to play the SWAM Trumpet? My EWI, although it requires a certain degree of air pressure, allows me to play effortlessly. We are both 70+ and are still actively playing. Thanks so much and I love you videos!
