In this video, we turbocharge a 2004 Sportster 1200R using the DoctorMotorcycle Draw-thru turbo setup, which fits on 1986-2006 Evolution Sportsters. On this sportster, we also installed a set of Fueling Bolt-in cams, and we do a back-to-back comparison of 40-80mph acceleration - the addition of the cams made a huge difference, and completely transformed this bike. This is because the stock "W" cam in these sportster are very low performance, with early intake close timing and very short duration. Great for making piles of torque at 3,500, not great for top end power.
Turbochargers are power multipliers....they are not miracle workers. Low-boost setups on stock engines are typically very underwhelming, unless installed on an already high-performance engine....which a sportster is not. It is a well known fact that you can make similar power to low-boost turbo setups with a well cammed and tuned N/A setup. That said, if you were to take that well tuned N/A setup, and add a turbo on top of that - you'd have a real monster. We universally see a 40% power gain to the wheels on 8psi and about 50% power gain on 9-10psi. This math applies to bone stock engines as well as ported and cammed engines. A stock 65rwhp engine x 1.5 = 97.5rwhp. A highly modified cammed and ported engine making 110rwhp x 1.5 = 165rwhp.

Der Einbau der Nockenwellen hat einen enormen Unterschied gemacht und dieses Motorrad komplett verwandelt. Das liegt daran, dass die serienmäßigen "W"-Nockenwellen in diesen Sportsters sehr leistungsschwach sind, da sie ein frühes Schließen des Einlassventils und eine sehr kurze Dauer aufweisen. Sie sind großartig für jede Menge Drehmoment bei 3.500 U/min, aber nicht ideal für Spitzenleistung im oberen Drehzahlbereich.
