In NB running 2E and 4E are actually the same width. Only difference is the shape of the insole. The 4E is flatter for a flat foot. Dimensions are identical. The shoes themselves are identical. Only the insole is different. Now you know. And you can absolutely find deals. Just wait for stuff to go on sale but if the shoe is highly popular, don't expect it go on sale until it's old. But that should be common sense. the 1080v13 never went on sale because it sells like hot cakes. Not even for running, but for casual use because people are loving the mushy soft midsole. fyi i had to edit the comment because it was being filtered when I included the name of an online marketplace.

First off thanks for the honest review. I have been running off and on for years. My favorite shoes were the Pearl Izumi but they quit making running shoes years back. So as all good runners I hit the ebay and bought every pair I could find. Fast forward to this year and I finally started running in my last pair. So now I needed to find a new trainer. tried the Nike Pegasus but caused me severe knee pain which was due to the narrow sole. Next tried the Nike zoom fly 5. Those were not good for me probably due to the carbon fiber plate but did like all the toe box room. With Nike off the list I began reading and happened across a review of the NB 880's. To the local shoe store I go. Tried the 880's, 1080 v14 and 1080 v13. 880 was way to firm and 1080 v14 was way too squishy. Salesgirl said I have another shoe for you to try and was the 1080 v13. Wow was this the perfect shoe for me. Yes still squishy but feels firmer. It was a perfect shoe in between the 880 and 1080 v14. I have put about 120 miles on them and my feet thank me every day. I know all runners and feet are different, but I hope my little review helps someone!

If Vongov6 and 1080v13 have the same upper, I can say that even if it starts snug and I really tighten the lace before the run, the upper will stretch significantly mid run so I need to relace it. Makes my feet float around the shoes too much and causes heel slippage. Glad that v14's more structured upper fixed this.
@jnorthingtonjr2 ай бұрын
To the point! Thanks Matt
@jeffhicks8428Ай бұрын
I've tried both. Along with the v12 which is my favorite of the bunch. I think the upper is nicer on the v13 of all 3. I think the geometry, fit, feel and everything else was best on the v12. The v12 is close to a perfect shoe imo. Lower stack, lower drop, very plush cushioning, plush knit upper, highly flexible, wide roomy fit, stable. The issue I had with the v13 is that it was just too soft. Especially in the heel. It felt unstable and like negative drop when standing around. Aside from that, which is actually a pretty big issue, I thought it was a really nice comfortable shoe. The v14 has me puzzled. Is it even a 1080 anymore? It's taller, narrower and stiffer than ever. Did NB hire someone from Altra? Cuz that's their jam Sad to say, The 1080 is no longer a flexible shoe. it's a stiff, rocker shoe now. The midfoot is tighter than ever before. The room height wise is compromised vs the prior models. And the toe box is more pointy than ever. I can make it work, in 4E with the insole removed but only if. I'm not a fan of the scratchy new upper they're using on a lot of the new shoes. The More V5 has the same thing and it's not nice. Speaking of the MoreV5, this shoe was also very compromised height wise. They added 10 mm of stack and seems like they took away 10 mm from inside the shoe. Not nice. Sad too because the More V4 was a superb shoe and really worked for high volume people like myself. Anyway I do like the midsole on the v14 better than the 13 because it's not mushy and unstable anymore. It's still a very soft, plush, compliant, midsole and now has more resilience than ever imo. I still prefer the rebel to any of these.

I got a pair the other day - and I'm just so disappointed that New Balance continues to refuse to make an ankle collar that doesn't strike up against my - and by the looks of Reddit, many others' - ankles. Making ankles bleed and injuring them. It sure looks good with the striking lines on the ankle collar, but its extremely stiff build on the collar with stitching right on the top (why...), and the design's assumption that ankles are placed right up against your achilles tendon leaves some of us striking our ankles right into that collar's forward half. I've tried the 1080V11, 1080V12 and 1080V13 and NB *still* assumes ankles are something that sit a solid inch behind where they actually do. In the new ones, my ankles *still* strike into that collar. Would it seriously be *that* compromising to stability to just make a round ankle collar, New Balance? The 1080V13 was otherwise such an immaculate-feeling recovery shoe. Why even ride the line against people's ankles *that* close instead of giving literally just a couple millimeters of space?

On a scale of 0 to 10, with 0 being barefoot on concrete and 10 being the softest shoe you’ve ever tried, how would you rate both of these shoes? I’m an ER nurse and I walk approx. 7 miles a day at work, sometimes more. I LOVED the 1080v13. I’ve gotten almost 6 months out of them. I switched to it from wearing Nike’s all the time and burning through them in 3-4 months. I was going to buy another pair of 1080v13’s but saw the v14’s are coming out soon… I know it wouldn’t be a mistake to get the v13’s again, but I think I like the look of the v14’s a little better. Both good looking shoes, but just a little better. So, hypothetically, if the v13 is a 10/10 soft shoe, I’d probably buy the v14 if it is a 9.5/10 or even a 9/10, especially given that the durability seems to be a little higher. But if the v14 is like 8/10, I probably wouldn’t spring for it. I’d sacrifice a little durability to just have the comfort of the v13 again. I also love Nike’s Flyknit and I thought the v13’s upper was pretty similar to that, which I liked. If the V14 upper is much stiffer, maybe I wouldn’t like it so much compared to the v13. I hope this questions makes sense, and I appreciate the feedback.

Like walking on mashed potatoes. Mush. The 1080v13 is the softest running shoe on the market, probably ever. This makes it unstable, dimensionally and otherwise. 6 mm drop? Not when it's loaded with you weight. I can feel it going negative drop just standing around. But it sells like hot cakes because mushy is a meme now. Not even for running but for casual use. Neither get a nimbus 26 😂
@jeffhicks84282 ай бұрын
Asics run short, narrow, shallow, tight. NB is the opposite. Lotta people who wear NB literally can't fit into a skinny shallow little Asics shoe for girly feet. The Nimbus is also stiff as a board with a noticeable rocker whereas 1080's are flexible. The nimnbus is as stiff as many plated shoes but it doesn't have a plate it's just a boat. Asics also tend to have a lot higher offset/drop than NB. Not everyone wants to run in skinny, narrow, stiff, high heels. But yes, the cushion in the nimbus is nice without being mushy too soft like the 1080v13. So in conclusion, the fit is drastically different, the geometry is drastically different, different ride, everything different, I would say that was a low information comparison. These are not similar shoes at all.
@CC-hy1lx2 ай бұрын
@@jeffhicks8428 I think it has to do with the ASICS design in Japan as Japanese (and Asian) people have a different stature and running gait, as well as foot structure.
